Hi - Therapy is about empowering you to make decisions that make you feel good. It's also about understanding that, even when the 'perfect' decision isn't available, that you have the strength to manage any outcome. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Doctorate in Marital and Family Therapy. I have over 17 years experience in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I'm also an expert in compassion fatigue and burnout and dealing with career stress and boundaries. I help people struggling in areas of work and other relationships find ways to better connect and to feel like themselves once again by challenging what contributed to negative feelings in the first place. I have worked with adults my entire career, as well as youth and adolescents. My outcomes are positive because I focus on building relationships through genuineness and humor.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The initial session is meant for me to understand what brought you to therapy, to discuss goals and expectations, and to see how recent challenges have impacted you. My goal is to see how I can help you and to generate conversation about what we might expect throughout the relationship. From there, we will formulate and talk about the plan and how we can maintain accountability to create the change you're looking to make. From there, it's simply about maintaining consistency, which is the hallmark of any good therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Over the last decade, my approach has been about being genuine, being real. I have extensive education and training in getting to know people, to understand their needs from their perspective that based on their values. My greatest strength is allowing people to feel seen and heard. I am approachable and make myself available to my clients. I am a professor at the university level and this furthers my ongoing desire to stay current in trends and ways to help with anxiety, trauma, depression, and relationship issues.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT can be used in holding us accountable and, through small, realistic, and achievable goals. CBT can change unhelpful or unhealthy ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. CBT uses practical self-help strategies designed to improve quality of life.

Trauma-Focused CBT

Trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy or that aims at addressing post traumatic stress disorder and other difficulties related to traumatic life events. The focus is on understanding how your trauma impacts your daily life and relationships to self, others, and your immediate world (at work or social interactions).

Attachment-based

The goals of attachment-based psychotherapy are to address the limiting effects of negative early attachment experiences. It is essentially used to strengthen the capacity for secure relationships and make for more adaptive and healthy actions in the world.

EMDR

EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages brief focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements or tapping), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.

Narrative

Narrative therapy is a form of therapy that aims to separate the individual from the problem, allowing the individual to externalize their issues rather than internalize them. It relies on one's own skills and sense of purpose to guide them through difficult times. It allows for someone to challenge their perceptions and reframe how they see themselves in a given situation.
