New to Grow
Welcome to my page, and I appreciate your consideration. I am a Licensed Psychologist in Florida with extensive experience supporting military veterans, adolescents, and adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, substance abuse, and trauma. With a compassionate approach, I foster connections that provide you with the support and understanding you need to navigate life's overwhelming challenges. You have come to the right place if you are ready to start your healing journey.
Drawing from my unique background as a survivor of poverty and my years of dedicated military service, I offer a deep empathy that resonates with people. In the initial sessions, I prioritize creating a safe space for you to explore your specific issues, their origins, and how these challenges manifest in your current environments.
My professional journey includes significant experience in high-pressure environments, including working in correctional facilities, where I honed my commitment to change-focused therapy. I believe in the power of collaboration and am passionate about guiding individuals toward meaningful change. I have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of therapeutic work, which has affirmed my belief that with support and understanding, positive change is attainable.
As a dedicated mental health professional, I specialize in supporting individuals from minority communities who are navigating life’s toughest challenges—those that often intensify feelings of depression and anxiety. My practice is rooted in cultural sensitivity, trauma-informed care, and a deep understanding of the systemic and personal barriers that disproportionately affect marginalized groups. Whether you're facing racial trauma, immigration stress, identity struggles, or economic hardship, I provide a safe, affirming space where your story is heard and your healing journey is honored. My goal is to empower you with tools to reclaim your peace, build resilience, and rediscover hope—on your own terms.
• Develop Problem List • Identify why the client has this problem? • Identify where the problem comes from (origin of schema)? • Determine how it is maintained in the environment?
(1) enhance the client’s self-awareness (2) foster understanding of the client’s thoughts, feelings, and beliefs in relation to their past experiences, especially his or her experiences as a child (Haggerty, 2016). This is accomplished by: -Guiding the client through the examination of unresolved conflicts. -Examining significant events in the client’s past.
1. Looking for exceptions to the problem, including pre-session change (times when you are not experiencing the current problem) 2. Recognizing the client’s strengths, often in the form of compliments 3. Setting goals with clients 4. Asking the miracle question (i.e., Imagine life has been changed “miraculously” in the direction you would like it to be, how would you know your life has changed?) 5. Asking scaling questions (i.e., on a scale of 1 to 10…where are you?) 6. Asking relationship questions 7. Asking coping questions (i.e., How are you managing your problem now, and how might we build on that?) 8. Taking a consulting break 9. Assigning homework tasks 10. Focus on what is better
-Advise only with permission -Affirm (recognizing client strengths and countering a defeatist attitude) -Emphasize personal choice/encourage client autonomy -Ask open-ended questions -Reflect, reframe, and support
