Welcome! I'm Shanell. I would like to first take a moment to commend you on this huge step that you have taken in exploring mental health services as a means of seeking assistance with working toward life improvement, well-being, and positive changes. That is not always easy to do and takes courage as I know that it can be empowering yet a little confusing and/or scary all at the same time. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California and I provide therapy to individuals, families, and couples with over 10 years of experience. I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is welcoming, safe and non-judgmental to assist in allowing you to freely explore and process your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and experiences related to obstacles that impact your life. I provide individualized services based on the unique needs of each individual, as people are unique and there is no one style fit for all when it comes to life, mental health, and wellness. I believe in a respectful approach and I employ sensitivity and compassion without stigmatizing labels.
In our first session together we will start with introductions, move on to discussing the challenges that led you to seeking treatment, and then we will work collaboratively on identifying your goals for treatment in order to create a specific plan to meet your identified treatment needs.
I have extensive clinical experience as I worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, and emotional dysregulation. I have also worked with diverse clients across various settings and with varying life challenges including stress management, mental health difficulties, relationship issues, family conflict, and complex trauma. I have experience with utilizing CBT to assist in identifying and changing negative thought patterns, exploring how thoughts influence emotions and behaviors as a means of developing healthy coping strategies to change thinking patterns and improve overall wellbeing.
My experience with employing a person centered approach is such that understanding each person is their own individual and no two people are the same. It is important to focus on the unique experiences and and feelings of each unique individual. Providing a supportive, safe, empathetic environment to allow for exploration of thoughts and emotions freely based on individualized treatment needs.
