Hi there! My name is Marixa and I have been working in the field of mental health for over 10 years. I have a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master of Science in Educational Counseling. I have experience supporting individuals who are struggling with low self esteem, anxiety, depression, trauma, painful past experiences, issues in relationships, “feeling stuck”, etc. I use a wide range of techniques to support my clients through their needs. I have found that using Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), in combination with talk therapy, has supported many of my patients with reducing the overall intensity of their symptoms and helping them attain their treatment goals. Sometimes taking a leap of faith and allowing yourself to feel and process your pain is what will help you feel more in alignment with where you want to be and how you want to feel.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In my practice, I tailor my sessions to support clients with their current needs. Clients can expect to be treated with respect, compassion, authenticity, and empathy. I consider the therapeutic relationship, your trust, as something that is gained through authenticity, respect, empathy, etc. The space I try to create is one where you can feel safe in sharing your pain, but also one where humor is welcomed. If EMDR is found to be a good fit for treatment, clients can expect to engage in the different phases of the modality.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I have experience using a wide range of treatment methods, however, my preference include: Humanistic therapy, Psychodynamic, , etc. Currently, I use EMDR with many of my clients in combination with talk therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strengths as a therapist included optimism, empathy, good listening skills, good rapport building, which have supported a strong therapeutic alliance.
