Hi! My name is Deb and I am a Licensed Clinical Social worker in the state of North Carolina currently. I received my masters degree in clinical social work at the University of Michigan. I received my bachelors in social work at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. I completed training in Addiction treatment, CBT, DBT, mindfulness based therapy. I have worked in group therapy, individual therapy with clients of all ages and with those who have many different mental illness. Reaching out for help is one of the hardest things someone can do in life- especially with mental health- when you take this step you have already completed a huge part of your journey to healing. I know what it feels like to reach out for someone else’s help and I would be honored to help you through your journey to meet your goals.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first sessions we will get to know each other and make sure it feels like a good fit to move forward in our journey to self healing and discovery. We will talk about what brings you to seek therapy and a little about your history and how I can help.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel like my biggest strength in therapy is that I have training in many different therapeutic techniques and also believe in the therapeutic relationship as very healing. My tool box in helping others is full and I feel it is important to dip into different modalities at different times in therapy. I also believe that every person seeking help deserves the best in their therapist and I am willing to be here and walk this journey with you. It can be the hardest thing you do in your life- but trying therapy and working together we can get through.

My treatment methods

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I like to use mindfulness in therapy as it is a great coping skill and also helps us to regulate our emotions when they maybe overwhelming or feels too hard to move through. Mindfulness is a very important tool in helping us on a daily basis and something we can all learn to use and access on our own.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is an essential part of therapy. There are many parts including the very important piece of psycho education on our mental health and understanding why our brains are reacting the way they are to different situations. Also being able to discuss and use talk therapy to understand more in depth what might be troubling the person. Then moving to work on behavioral changes that could help fix the problem and gaining skills to use in the everyday life to help work through the problems.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT is so helpful for many problems- it includes distress tolerance skills to help us manage hard and overwhelming feelings and work through without using destructive behaviors or self harm. Interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation and mindfulness are all parts of dbt and I have used this in treatment with many clients.

EMDR

EMDR is a specialized form of therapy for those dealing with trauma. It stands for Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. With this treatment we work together to process traumatic memories while moving your eyes in a specific way. EMDR's goal is to help you heal from trauma or other distressing.

Group Therapy

Group therapy can be so helpful and essential for some people going through treatment. Helping to know others are dealing with the same thing at the same time and how they are getting through. Connecting with others during difficult times can help us heal.
