(she/her)
As a counselor, I am passionate about creating a safe, nonjudgmental, empowering, and empathetic space for my clients to grow in their goals and gain the skills/tools to manage their depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and major life transitions. I specialize in depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, religious trauma, and major life transitions. I am passionate about assisting clients in finding internal safety, meeting their individual goals, and breaking cycles of generational trauma. In my free time I love discovering new coffee shops, getting lost at a bookstore, learning a new craft/art form, experimenting with a new recipe, exploring museums, seeing the first buds of my garden, and wondering through the park.
First sessions can feel intimating and overwhelming whether you are a seasoned client who has seen many therapist or seeking therapy for the first time. My goal in our first session is to learn what brings you into therapy, what are your goals, and what is the best approach to aid you in meeting your goals. My secondary goal is to learn more about your background such as family, support system, education, health, etc. We will discuss these topics as we build trust and rapport. There will not be any pressure to discuss anything that is triggering or that you are not ready to talk about until rapport is built. Mental safety, confidentiality, and trust are top priority always.
One of my greatest strengths as a counselor is my ability to customize my client’s treatment through a multimodality approach. As I build rapport and get to know my client I am able to utilize multiple therapeutic approaches to tailor the best treatment for each individual client.
Everyone has a story worth telling and being heard. I am passionate about empowering people - particularly those that view themselves as the underdog, overlooked, or ignored - to have a voice, to feel internal safety, and to be equipped with the tools they need to thrive.
Amanda Steiner offers therapy covered by Kaiser Permanente - Medicaid and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Virginia.
My goal in using person-centered therapy is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment in which my client’s are able to explore their feelings, gain new insights into their experiences, and increase their self-awareness/self-esteem. Person-centered therapy allows me to customize my client’s treatment to their strengths and allows goals to be met without the pressure of weekly therapeutic homework.
My goal in utilizing trauma informed care is to address the emotional and psychological effects of trauma by building resilience, teaching you about the effects of trauma on the mind and body, and teaching you coping skills to manage trauma symptoms. As we work through trauma I will have “check in’s” with you during the session to ensure that we are maintaining a feeling of safety and security in both body and mind.
