I am Shamona McFadden, a Licensed Mental Health Therapist. I have over 13 years experience providing therapeutic interventions and consulting in areas where stagnation or obstacles hinder clients from performing at a certain level of normalcy. I believe in a well-rounded approach to wellness specializing in mental health, relationships, family therapy, fitness/nutrition, and much more. It is imperative for clients to understand the process included in therapy to not only feel better, but to also maintain a certain level of health through self-care once sessions are completed.
Our first session will include a brief introduction from me as the therapist, an intake questionnaire and the expectations of counseling during our time together. The first session typically allows the client to share the challenges allowing the therapist to better understand the concerns and create a treatment plan.
Greatest strength...whew... would be connecting with the client and allowing them to openly express themselves free of judgement. Our sessions will be a safe space where not only the clients freely speaks but is challenged beyond their normal scope of thinking/doing. Building a relationship and making the client feel comfortable is important to client's willingness and engagement.
I love working with clients that are willing to work. Counseling may not be easy because it requires identifying the challenge (which may be caused by the client) and doing the necessary work to create change. However, it is rewards to see the growth that occurs when one is dedicated to moving forward.
I've been using CBT the majority of my experience with a sprinkle of narrative and solution-focused therapy. I believe the CBT allow the clients to identify various patterns, reduce behaviors and even replace them with healthier alternatives. CBT is used to address depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness.
