Are you a parent of a child who is experiencing anxiety? Does your child need help in improving their social skills, coping skills, self-esteem, or self-advocacy skills? Are you an older child or adult who is becoming involved in relationships and need support in building boundaries and defining healthy relationships? Are you tired of waking up day in and day out tired as soon as the alarm goes off filled with anxiety thinking about the overwhelming day ahead? You've already taken the first and hardest step in seeking help, congratulations! I'm so glad you're here! My name is Erika and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida with over 12 years of experience working with young children, adolescents, and adults. I have a calm, kind, and empathetic demeanor and I strive to cultivate a safe and inviting environment where clients feel comfortable to explore any obstacles they may be facing. I am passionate about equipping individuals with the tools they need to advocate for themselves when necessary and I have a strengths-based approach, relying on the strengths clients have and building on those using a growth mindset and challenging any automatic negative thoughts. I believe a successful therapeutic relationship requires honesty, reliability, and dependability from both parties and is the key to success. I look forward to joining you and helping you on this journey to find the best version of yourself.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll get to know each other a little bit. I want the client to feel comfortable with their decision. I will also ask the client to share with me about what brought them to therapy and think about at least one goal. Depending on time and what is shared, we may be able to discuss some ways we may work on getting to that goal and little goals on the way.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I work hard to maintain a calming presence and meet each client where they are. I understand that our mental health has an impact on our daily lives and due to my experience over the years, I have an understanding of what it looks like in the different aspects of our lives when we struggle with it. I can and will create a safe, comfortable, honest, and trusting therapist/client relationship so that the therapeutic process can be moved through successfully.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I've been using CBT in practice for years. Using this treatment method has helped the individuals I've worked with challenge the negative thoughts they have and see how their thoughts, feelings, and behavior are all connected. When working with clients, I empathize with them and normalize that automatic thoughts are hard to challenge and work with them so they recognize that their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all influenced by one another. Once you begin to have that recognition and knowledge, we'll use it to work on altering your thinking patterns in a more positive and healthy way.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

It's easy to become overwhelmed by our current perceived struggles and all that feels wrong. When I'm working with clients, I find that it is sometimes helpful to focus on solutions in the present and explore hope for the future. With this approach, goals will be set when a client can answer what is widely known as the miracle question, "if a miracle happened overnight, what changes would you notice in your life?". Answering this allows for us to work together towards making small changes to reach the clients ultimate goal and solving their presenting problem(s). I have often used solution focused treatment with the kids I see in schools based on the amount of time I have to work with them. It has also been my experience that it is also helpful to keep treatment focuses and on track.
