Hey there! I'm Jessie! Do you feel like you're carrying a bunch of unnecessary thought baggage around? Like your destination is the beach in life, but for some reason you keep bringing a parka that doesn't fit anymore though you think it still does? Or do you feel like you're down in the dumps and can't seem to find a way to climb out? Or do you notice yourself beating yourself up worse than a punching bag? If so, we can work on that! I work well with people who want to have a better relationship with themselves, others and the world around them, but are having a difficult time doing so. In the work I do with my clients, I help people evaluate and challenge the thought processes that influence their emotions and actions to see how these beliefs serve them. And if those thoughts don't quite help a client get where they would like to go in life, I guide clients in identifying more helpful thoughts that do serve them and where they want to go in life. Whether you have experienced trauma, have had a lot of unsupportive family members/significant people in your life, or perhaps you are your own worst critic, I'm here to help you look at yourself and your thoughts in a more realistic manner. Instead of allowing the past to dictate your present and future, I'm here to help put you back in the driver's seat of your life

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, you can expect me to ask you a lot of questions so that I get a better understanding of what you want to work on as well as getting a history of events that lead you to a place of wanting different. From there, sessions will focus on identifying thoughts/beliefs that may be impeding you, finding ways to evaluate your thinking, and then replacing your thoughts with more reality based beliefs. I also will offer a lot of skills for managing unpleasant emotional states

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I am trained in EMDR and CPT for trauma. I also utilize CBT for evaluating negative thought patterns, and also use a lot of DBT skills to help manage intense emotional states. I also utilize analogies to put concepts in more easy to understand ways.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As therapy can be a very vulnerable place, I pride myself on my warm, non-judgmental demeanor. With that, I have spent a lot of time getting trained in working with trauma, where I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). With each of these protocols I've had outstanding results working on childhood sexual abuse in adults. I also have a lot of experience working with the substance abuse population in addition to the mental health which can not only be helpful as the two can go hand in hand, but can also offer additional information on how the two are related.
