About me

My name is Molly Pennell and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker living in Indiana. I have been working with individuals and families for over 10 years in varying roles in community mental health and in the school systems. I have been working as a Licensed Social Worker for 4 years and have offered therapy to adults and adolescents. I believe everyone has internal and external strengths that can offer resilience during life’s most difficult challenges. I have spent time with several different populations of people in many different stages of life, all experiencing a challenge of some kind. One common theme I often see is the need for hope and connection. In my practice, it is important to build trust with individuals and incorporate hope, connection, and support as they pull from their strengths and work toward their goals. I believe in a strengths-based approach and can offer experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Polyvagal Therapy, and connecting to and navigating systems of care and resources.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session I will provide education on limits of confidentiality, offer information on what you can expect from me when it comes to communication outside of our sessions, and provide space for any questions you may have. I want to gain insight on what has brought you to therapy, as well as learn what goals you are working towards. I want to learn about your strengths, needs, supports, and how I can best support you in reaching your goals.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My passion is to help others to see their strengths and use those strengths to become the best version of themselves. I believe in connection and understanding and I hold value in providing a non judgmental, person-centered environment.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with people in many different stages of life! Whether you are experiencing an increase in sadness, worry, relationship problems, or experiencing one of life’s difficult moments, there is hope. I specialize in working with adults and adolescents who are experiencing depression, anxiety, or who are struggling to work through the challenges of stages of developmental transitions.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT can be very useful in creating acceptance in dealing with uncomfortable thoughts and feelings that all humans experience in life. When appropriate, ACT can allow a person to focus on the present moment and become a more flexible thinker, which can offer more happiness in their life and relationships.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I often use CBT in my practice as it can help a person change patterns of negative thinking and provide strategies for future challenges. Identifying core negative beliefs, learning how thoughts, feelings, and actions impact each other, and establishing coping strategies are examples of how CBT will be used in my practice.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT may be useful in treating mood disorders, suicidal ideation, nonsuicidal self-injury, and other mental health diagnoses. I have used DBT frequently when working with young adults and adolescents who are struggling with emotional regulation and conflicts in relationships.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is helpful when a person is interested in making change in their life but struggling to move to the next stage of change. Motivational interviewing is a person centered approach.

Polyvagal Therapy

Polyvagal Therapy focuses on providing education about the body’s vagus nerve and how our body may react to stress, including the fight, flight, or freeze responses. Teaching strategies to support a persons central nervous system to increase the feeling of safety is the goal when using Polyvagal Therapy.
