In my practice, I utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) within a trauma-informed care framework to support clients struggling with self-esteem, body image, and relationship issues. Recognizing the impact of trauma on these areas, I create a safe and empathetic environment where clients feel validated and understood. DBT's structured approach helps clients develop practical skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. For self-esteem and body image concerns, I focus on helping clients cultivate self-compassion and challenge negative self-talk through mindfulness and acceptance strategies, always being mindful of their trauma history. In addressing relationship issues, I guide clients in building healthier communication patterns and setting appropriate boundaries using DBT's interpersonal effectiveness skills, while ensuring a trauma-sensitive approach. By integrating these techniques, I empower clients to navigate their emotions more effectively, improve their self-perception, and foster more fulfilling relationships, all within a context that prioritizes their safety and well-being.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the first session, we will go over precipitating event for therapy, pertinent family influences on presenting problem, coping skills that have worked in the past, collaborate on treatment goals and set expectations for subsequent sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I think one of the greatest gifts you can give someone is your genuine, undivided attention. I help clients feel seen and heard. I’m warm, caring and compassionate. The most consistent feedback I get from my clients is that I didn’t give up on them.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I also enjoy utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which involves a structured approach to help you identify and challenge negative thought patterns and behaviors. Initially, we would conduct a thorough assessment to understand your issues, goals, and history. Together, we would set specific, achievable goals. In our sessions, we would explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, identifying any cognitive distortions and maladaptive behaviors. Through techniques such as cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and skill-building exercises, I would guide you in developing healthier thought patterns and coping strategies. Homework assignments between sessions would reinforce these techniques, enabling you to apply what you’ve learned in real-life situations, ultimately leading to improved mental health and well-being. Regular reviews of your progress would ensure that the therapy remains aligned with your evolving needs and goals.
