New to Grow
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified by the state of Georgia and The National Board for Certified Counselors. I am also a Certified Professional Counseling Supervisor, humbly able to oversee the work of interns while sharing my knowledge and experience with those seeking clinical licensure in the state of Georgia. Lastly, I am a School Counselor with over 18 years of experience in the public school system. My primary function is to provide therapeutic support services to children, adolescents and adults experiencing cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral deficits or disabilities. I received my Educational Specialist degree in Professional Counseling and Supervision from the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia. I obtained my Master of Education in School Counseling from Georgia State University. I have worked in the mental/behavioral health field since 2006- serving adults, adolescents, children and families in the community and mental health system in a number of clinical and administrative roles. My training and experience include providing social and emotional support to children in a school setting, psychotherapy to adults, families, and groups in the private sector, residential treatment setting, as well as psychological evaluations and diagnoses of cognitive and behavioral disorders for all age groups.
Therapy involves evaluating your thoughts and behaviors, identifying stressors that contribute to your condition and working to modify both to improve mood and behavioral outcomes. Studies show, people who actively participate in therapy recover more quickly and have fewer relapses. Therapy requires time, effort, and regularity; it works best when you attend all scheduled appointments. At your initial session we will verify or obtain intake information and identify goals for treatment. I will also explain my therapeutic process and answer any questions you have about me or your individualized treatment.
I want to create a safe space for people to receive help navigating the complexities of life. Life is hard but prioritizing your wellness and maximizing your potential does not have to be! By creating a multifaceted systematic approach to therapy, I am able to support diverse populations in a wide range of areas.
I use multiple theoretic approaches to achieve your treatment goals. In session, we will explore the underlying dynamics and repeating patterns of mood, thought, emotion, behavior, relational styles, and experiences that form recurring “themes” in your life. Together we collaborate to bring more awareness, intention, empowerment, and connection into your life and into your relationships so that you can live more fully the life you have imagined.
I use this treatment method to help clients identify and change inaccurate perceptions that they may have of themselves and the world around them. This helps the patient establish new ways of thinking by directing attention to both the "wrong" and "right" assumptions they make about themselves and others.
This method is based on the belief that individuals have unresolved, generally unconscious conflicts, often stemming from childhood. The goal of this type of therapy is for the patient to understand and cope better with these feelings by talking about the experiences. Psychodynamic therapy brings awareness to the childhood experiences that guide our behavioral responses.
