Hello! My name is Dr. Nicky Underwood. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified First Responder Counselor, Texas-based provider, and a New York City native with many years of experience working in various settings, including university clinics, community mental health, hospitals, private practice, and telehealth platforms. I am also an adjunct instructor working for a major university. *****Please note although you will receive consent forms from GrowTherapy, I will also send you my own consent forms and notice of privacy to your email address from my HIPAA-compliant email address as soon as you schedule an appointment with me. Check your spam folder if you do not see the email. I will not see clients until those forms are signed. I do not see clients for same-day appointments; therefore, give yourself at least two days to complete the forms before your session. Thank you for your cooperation.*****
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
I have training in anxiety disorders and depression. I use a strength-based approach to therapy to help clients identify and recognize their resilience and foster healthy coping strategies to improve their lives. You will learn practical coping mechanisms from the first session to manage your issues. My approach to therapy depends on the client. I mainly practice eclectic therapy. I do not ascribe to the doctor knows best philosophy or the independent choice model of giving all decision-making authority to the client. I prefer to practice from the shared decision-making model, where you and I will collaborate on the best treatment for your issues. My attribute styles are warm, affirming, and empowering.
