Hi! I am a licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC). I received my master's degree from Sam Houston State University. I am currently working on the credentialing process to be a registered play therapist. I work with people across the lifespan who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and trauma/PTSD. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Gottman Method level 1.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing as well as set goals. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I provide psychoeducation specifically tailored to each client's challenges and provide a variety of ways for clients to process challenges and gain insight.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

In attachment therapy, I start by assessing my client's attachment patterns and history to understand the dynamics at play. Creating a safe and nurturing environment is crucial, as I aim to build trust through consistent, empathetic interactions. Using techniques like play therapy or talk therapy, I help my client explore their attachment patterns, past experiences, and emotions, especially if there's trauma involved. Together, we work on processing and healing from these experiences, integrating healthy coping mechanisms and emotional regulation skills along the way. If the client is a child, involving caregivers is essential; I assist them in understanding the child's needs and fostering secure attachment through family therapy sessions. Throughout the process, I gradually expose the client to situations that trigger attachment-related anxieties, always ensuring a supportive and controlled environment. As therapy progresses, I aim for closure while scheduling follow-up sessions to provide ongoing support as needed.

EMDR

In my practice, I integrate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a powerful tool for processing and healing from traumatic experiences. First, I work closely with my client to establish a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, ensuring they feel comfortable and supported throughout the process. Together, we identify specific traumatic memories or distressing experiences that they wish to target. Using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, hand tapping, or auditory tones, I guide my client through reprocessing these memories while simultaneously helping them to stay grounded in the present moment. As the client focuses on the traumatic memory, I encourage them to notice any thoughts, emotions, or physical sensations that arise, allowing them to process and integrate these experiences in a new and adaptive way. Throughout the EMDR sessions, I provide gentle guidance and support, helping my client to navigate any challenges that may arise while facilitating their journey towards healing and resolution.

Couples Counseling

In my approach to couples counseling, I integrate the principles and techniques of the Gottman Method, Level 1. Firstly, I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where both partners feel comfortable expressing themselves openly and honestly. Using the Gottman Method's assessment tools, such as the Gottman Relationship Checkup or the Sound Relationship House Theory, I work with the couple to gain insight into their relationship dynamics, strengths, and areas for improvement. Through structured interventions and exercises, I help the couple enhance their communication skills, develop empathy and understanding for each other's perspectives, and build a stronger emotional connection. I teach them practical tools for managing conflict constructively, including the Gottman Method's "softened start-up," which encourages gentle and respectful communication during disagreements. Additionally, I assist the couple in identifying and nurturing the positive aspects of their relationship, such as fondness and admiration, shared goals, and rituals of connection. By integrating the Gottman Method's research-based techniques into our sessions, I empower couples to cultivate a healthier, more satisfying relationship that can withstand the challenges they may face together.

Play Therapy

In my play therapy sessions, I create a nurturing and safe space where children can freely express themselves through play. Using a wide range of toys, games, and creative materials, I encourage them to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a non-directive manner. Through observation and gentle guidance, I gain insight into their inner world, understanding their struggles, strengths, and needs. I engage in play alongside the child, joining them in their world and validating their feelings without judgment. As we play, I actively listen, reflect, and empathize, helping the child to make sense of their experiences and develop coping skills. I also incorporate structured activities and therapeutic techniques tailored to the child's unique goals and challenges. Collaborating closely with parents or caregivers, I provide support and guidance to help reinforce the child's progress outside of therapy sessions. By harnessing the power of play, I empower children to heal, grow, and thrive in their lives.
