My name is Melanie; I am a board-certified, licensed professional counselor supporting clients struggling with issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, or major life changes. Oftentimes we find ourselves at a crossroads and become stuck from indecision and fear. I have over 10 years of experience working with adults and teens in community mental health settings in the following areas: Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, PTSD, Personality Disorders, Anger & Stress Management, Substance Use, Intimate Partner Violence, Parent/Child Relationship Problems, and Non-Suicidal Self-Harm.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My foundational approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (helping others understand how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors affect each other); however, my style is adaptive and holistic; it is guided by the individual needs of each client. I believe that healing is a collaborative process that requires honest caring without judgment, to allow space for openness and vulnerability safely. In our first session, we will explore your needs and goals for change. I like to think of the first session as a meet and greet; we can ask questions and establish common ground for a therapeutic relationship.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Rather than adopting one style for all individuals and issues, I draw from a variety of methods to create a tailored approach for each individual and situation. As a therapist, I am open, encouraging, and challenge clients in a compassionate way.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

There is not one right approach for any client, though many common issues have proven therapeutic interventions. I take a person-centered approach to tailor treatment to what works for you. I have been formally trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for depression, anxiety, and crisis interventions; Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma , and Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS).
