Welcome! I am Mayra Ramos, LCSW Seeking counseling can be quite nerve wrecking, not knowing what to expect, and often doubting that it will actually help. But, counseling doesn't have to be so complicated. Counseling is about building a trusting relationship with your therapist, knowing that you can talk about anything that comes to mind. You don't have to second doubt yourself, as counseling is all about you. It's a place where you will be understood, where you will be listened to, supported, and where the ultimate goal is to increase your overall well being. I strive to provide clients with a safe and comforting environment, where they are free to express themselves. Clients will be able to explore their thoughts, current situations, address stressors, life changes, relationship conflicts, grief, and a multitude of issues. Together we will work to set boundaries, improve relationships, increase healthy coping skills, and live a more joyful life.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we’d start with getting to know each other, explain therapy expectations, obtain patient history and background. We will build a trusting and working relationship. Together we will identify your challenges and goals, and work on strategies to help you lead a fulfilled life. Remember that you are free to provide feedback. If for some reason you have concerns, do not hesitate to bring them up. We will hold each other accountable for the sake of your growth!

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I think one of my greatest strengths is that I am empathetic, I listen and make my patients feel comfortable. They know that therapy is all about them and that they will be heard and guided to address their concerns.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have utilized CBT with clients over the past years. CBT techniques have helped numerous clients when dealing with anxiety and depression. With CBT we will identify excessive, maladaptive, and self defeating thought patterns. In addition, we will identify feelings, and behaviors that often increase symptoms of anxiety and depression. After identifying irrational thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, will work together to learn and utilize these techniques in order to improve every day coping. Together we will work to change anxiety producing thoughts, and live a happier life.

Psychoeducation

I often utilize psychoeducation as a foundation in therapy. It helps clients understand their symptoms, diagnoses, behaviors, emotions, and relationship dynamics. Psychoeducation has helped clients learn and understand how their body works, how to look after it. and the impacts of different strains or stressors.

Trauma Informed Care

I am experienced in Trauma informed care, and find it extreme it beneficial for patients with a history of sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, car accidents, and other tragic incidents. Trauma informed care is essential to help understand how trauma impacts one's health and behavior. Trauma informed care helps me as a therapist be able to respond my clients. I utilize best practices and treatment in order to reduce re-traumatization. This treatment is patient focused and helps establish emotional and physical safety. Together we will work to ensure to build a trusting relationship and kindly address traumas that my be impacting a client's life.
