New to Grow
Welcome to my page, I am Kristin - It's not lost on me what an important decision it is to find a therapist that is a good fit. I will make this as painless as possible. If you are looking for someone easy to talk to, non-judgmental, holds strong boundaries, AND can challenge you gently to think about things in a different light then I am your person. Therapy is necessary work and should be a place where you can let it all out and expect deep change if you're open to digging deep.
First session will be a meet and greet, background questions, symptoms, successes, and goals for care.
The feedback I have received from clients is that by being easy to talk to and nonjudgemental, I am given the privilege of getting a client who is more authentic and present in session. They are able to align with their true values when the person helping them is being equally authentic and present. Therapy results are not a straight line to success by any stretch, but we eventually get there.
An ideal client is one who comes to session on-time, prepared to grapple with whatever brought them to Grow, and work on improving their quality of life before, during, and after sessions. Weekly sessions can only take you to a certain point. You have to do most of the work yourself with tools from session. I will be there to help guide you towards your goals and help unpack any stuck points or barriers getting in the way.
I take the principles and techniques in ACT to help unpack stuck points and areas of your life causes distress. By accepting and not controlling those upsetting thoughts and feelings that come up, we can move towards a happier and healthier life rooted in our values.
I started using techniques in CBT-I when noticing that many clients were reporting poor, intermittent, interrupted, inconsistent sleep in combination with other complaints. You may not have a diagnosis of insomnia per se, but the techniques in CBT-I are wonderful tools for anyone with disruptive sleep. Addressing sleep hygiene (and nutrition, btw) is an essential part of my practice. If you aren't sleeping consistently then you are not functioning at your best. Let's see how I can help.
