Hello and thank you for checking out my profile and considering me in your current journey. My name is Jeff Moyer, licensed mental health therapist. I understand that therapy can be intimating and so I applaud you for taking this step in looking at options for support. My goal is to help change the perception of therapy and help clients see it as a positive way to support mental health, and just another way of developing one's health, just like with our physical health. I want to guide clients in developing positive changes in their life, so they feel better and healthier, emotionally. Therapy isn’t about changing who you are, but it’s about finding possible alternatives to support change in the areas that may be causing problems in our life. Thank you again for looking into ways to be more emotionally healthy, and I am here to help if you decide you would like to get started.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, I want you to feel heard, so I will allow for time for you to feel comfortable in letting me know what brings you to therapy and your hopes within the process. I will also answer any questions about me, the process, or apprehensions you may be experiencing, all in hopes to make this a comfortable session for you moving forward. My goal is to support you and help you figure out why you're in therapy and what support you feel you need, so you can hopefully start to find the path towards the change that might have been a struggle.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My approach is honest and open-minded, focusing on providing insight into the concerns or issues you feel are contributing to the problems in your life, finding practical solutions, and implementing long-term change for healing and better relationships. I want to help you see the positive aspects of change and help you feel successful in making those changes.

My treatment methods

Motivational Interviewing

I believe motivational interviewing is a way of talking with people about change and growth to strengthen their own motivation and commitment in their lives. Rather than just attempting to impose change in a person, Motivational Interviewing try’s to foster an interpersonal process of promoting shared goals by listening with the intent to understand and respect around the while person. I like to help my clients explore their motivation for their own change, align a plan with their values and help foster self-efficacy. I think this approach can help others develop more meaningful and impactful relationships with others that result in improved outcomes.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I love working within the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) method because it incorporates positive psychology principles which help clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on the problem. In the most basic sense, SFBT offers hope though positive emotions and future-oriented ideas by setting goals that are motivating and achievable, so that they can be sustained though a client's desire for behavioral change.

Positive Psychology

We have so many worries in the world today that I love working within the concept of positive psychology because the focus is on the strengths within a person instead of their weaknesses, which can allow for a client to build the good in life instead of repairing the bad, and allow for a client to take their lives to potentially “great” instead of focusing solely on moving those who are struggling up to “normal.”
