New clients continue care with this provider

Hello, I am a first-generation Mexican American, bi-lingual licensed clinical social worker in California. I received my BA in Psychology in 2014 and my Masters in Social Work in 2018. I have been in the field for 8 years. I have worked in community mental health, providing individual therapy and facilitating support groups, and I currently work as a clinician in a therapeutic community garden integrating mental health and therapeutic horticulture. I have a history of working as a medical social worker at a hospital for 5 years while also working in group private practice settings providing individual therapy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I would like to first acknowledge your strength and courage to begin the first steps towards change and self-improvement. The first session for many clients can feel scary, uncomfortable, or unknown; therefore, my goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment and address your questions about therapy. In the first session, the client and I will review all documents necessary to proceed with therapy, including guidelines and policy information. Clients will provide a brief psycho-social history and a history of the mental health issues that are causing challenges in their day-to-day lives. The client and therapist will work together to create goals for therapy that will help address their current issues. Lastly, you will have the opportunity to ask questions about therapy, the therapist's therapeutic approach, the therapist's use of techniques, and create a schedule that works for you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Throughout my professional journey, I have gained experience working with diverse populations, including individuals struggling with mild to severe mental illness. I take an eclectic, person-centered approach, knowing that every person is facing unique challenges and each person's need for support can look different. Throughout your journey, I will provide you with a safe space, meet you where you’re at, and gently challenge and guide you in order to meet your goals. Therapy can be your healing space to learn more about yourself, and together we can lead you in the direction of hope and living a meaningful life. “Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen", says Brene Brown.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

My specialties are working with adults (20+) and older adults (65+). I have experience providing support to individuals struggling with mood disorders, anxiety related disorders, history of trauma, grief and loss, and individuals having challenges with life transitions. I utilize a client-centered, strength based-recovery oriented approach and holistic, person-centered framework to guide clients to increased self-awareness and growth. I utilize an eclectic approach; therefore, I will tailor my approach based on my client's needs and goals. I integrate mindfulness, person-centered approach, cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, attachment based theory, and solution-focused therapy.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

A primarily goal of your treatment is to provide you a sense of safety, encourage collaboration between client and therapist, build trustworthiness and empower the client to reach their goals in therapy.

Attachment-based

Therapist will explore and process the thoughts, feelings, communications, behaviors, and interpersonal exchanges that are present and causing challenges/impairments due to early attachment experiences. The goal is to strengthen the capacity to create and maintain secure relationships.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In therapy clients will explore and process their thoughts, emotions and behaviors and implement strategies to help alleviate distress by developing more adaptive cognitions and behaviors.

Humanistic

Therapist approaches client and client's treatment with a focus on the individual and their inherent capacity to actualize themselves in their own unique ways. Therapist encourages the client to look inward to find the right choices for themselves which lead to wisdom, healing, growth, and fulfillment.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Therapist provides clients with knowledge and practice of mindfulness skills in order to bring awareness to present experience, increase curiosity, acceptance of the present moment, and practicing nonjudgmental awareness of sensations, emotions, thoughts, and the environment.
