As a bilingual Latina, I live and work in far west Texas. My professional path has led me through three major cities: Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso. Initially, my work focus was with children and teens within the criminal justice system and Child Protective Services. After moving across the state, I expanded my work to include autism spectrum disorders, asthma, and chronic illnesses in children by supporting parents and caregivers as a case manager and disease management educator. Later, I transitioned to providing psychotherapy with adults and children at a community behavioral health clinic in San Antonio. After a break to start and raise my family, I decided to return to psychotherapy. Assisting others in discovering hope amidst challenges and adversity is profoundly impactful. Observing change and growth in individuals over time brings me joy.
During our first session, we will focus on establishing trust and rapport. You can expect to discuss your reasons for seeking a therapy and your expectations from the therapy process. I will ask you questions about your life including medical history. Then together we will create a plan of counseling goals.
I hope to provide a safe and empathetic environment for sharing your concerns. I hope to gain your trust and confidence knowing that you can be honest about the current challenges or past experiences that have brought you to seek therapy.
Together, we will identify negative thoughts and ideas that lead to undesirable feelings and actions, and work on improving these thought patterns. You will discover how our thoughts directly influence our feelings and mood.
Instead of concentrating on what you can’t do or your problems, we'll highlight your skills, talents, and previous successes. You have the power to make positive changes in your life. Strength-based therapy encourages taking control and building confidence in your abilities. We'll work together as partners to identify and use your strengths to tackle challenges. Your input is key to the process.
I take a flexible and personalized approach that takes into account the needs and goals of each client. As we learn more about what works for you, we can adjust our approach to ensure you receive the most effective support.
A partnership between the therapist and the client. We work together as a team to understand your feelings and thoughts about change. Instead of the therapist telling you what to do, we draw out your own ideas and reasons for change. You already have the strengths and abilities within you to make changes, and this method helps bring these to the surface. You have the power to make your own choices. I respect your autonomy and supports your independence in making decisions about your life.
