Hi. My name is Marilyn Rose, LMFT. Having been a licensed therapist in Sacramento for over 18 years, I am excited about working with adults and their aging parents. I don't want to do couples counseling at this time. A certified Grief Therapist and educated in Geriatric care, I have personal experience as a care giver / case manager for my elderly parents. I have expertise in helping clients with life transitions, and empowering them to develop coping strategies. Essentially, I aid my clients in creating their individualized life paths within a secure and sacred space.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our initial session, we will start with brief introductions and will explore any areas of concerns you might have. It is very important to me that you feel seen and heard. I want you to bring up issues as they arise and will briefly check-in during the session. During the course of the sessions, the goals of your therapy are determined by you. You will be empowered to develop your own solutions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths are that I have overcome many of life's hurdles and become a stronger, more compassionate and wiser person and clinician due to my experiences.

My treatment methods

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

I use EFT to address client's negative emotions (anxiety, fear, etc.) by focusing on the issue and accepting themselves despite the problem. Using fingertips to tap 5-7 times on 9 meridian points sends signals directly to the stress centers of the mid brain and reduces the negative emotions. I teach clients by modeling this intervention so that eventually, they will be able to use it by themselves.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to aid clients in reducing symptoms such as anxiety and depression by helping them identify anxiety and feared situations via psycho education. Next, via cognitive restructuring, teach clients coping skills and focused thinking. The third stage is somatic management skills such as relaxation training and mindfulness. The final stage is gradual systematic exposure to feared situations.

Grief Therapy

I use compassion focused therapy with grieving clients. I provide a safe place for them to express their deep feelings of loneliness, abandonment and confusion. Teach them coping skills, learn new ways to find meaning and healing. I use expressive therapies including art, journaling, to help clients develop new relationships with themselves and others.

Strength-Based

I use a strength-based approach with clients and their families--especially clients in transition. Through the process of goal setting, strengths assessment, exploring alternative methods, building hope inducing relationships, these tools empower client's autonomy to make meaningful choices and decisions. This treatment practice is especially needed when life altering events happen.
