My name is April Cobb. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I'm here to assist, encourage and support you on your mental health healing journey. I create a supportive environment for clients to share, find acceptance and move towards the change and life you wish to see. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one approach I use in session. I believe in this approach because I believe if you can change your thoughts, your behavior will also change. I'm here to help you navigate the process.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients can expect to feel they are in a space to share and this space is safe. Clients will know their thoughts and feelings are being heard and understood while also being encouraged to make changes if needed. I believe people grow when they feel safe and supported.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my greatest strength as a provider is building great rapport. My super power is creating a peaceful environment. I believe when people are comfortable and feel safe, sharing is made easier.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I've used this technique with most of my clients because it is evidenced based. I use this method to help people learn how to identify and change the destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on their behavior and emotions. This can be done by talk therapy, journaling, assignments that encourage monitoring thoughts.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I've used this approach for short-term therapy for clients who have a focus on future goals. I assist with identifying strengths and resources for the client to move forward. I used this technique to help clients move forward with goals instead of allowing the past to create stagnation.

Motivational Interviewing

I've used the approach to assess the desire and sometimes need to make changes in life. I practice empathy, provide support and help clients to see the discrepancy in what the want in as opposed to the actions they are taking.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use this technique to educate and nominalize feeling the full ranges of emotions in a safe environment instead of denying emotions or avoiding emotions. I use emotion charts and emotion language to encourage clients to feel what they feel.

Couples Counseling

I've worked with couple to build effective communication skills, build trust, use "I" statement and state what they want instead of what they don't want. I also work to help couples celebrate their differences together.
