Hello, I'm Dr. Steffanie. Do you feel like you have no one to talk to? Do your friends and family have a hard time understanding you? Do you have trouble removing sad, negative thoughts from your mind? Are you on edge and find that everything bothers you? Do you have a past that you want to process? Are you experiencing Christian(Trinity)-related concerns? If you answered yes to any of the above, I'm here to walk this path with you in individual therapy. I utilize an eclectic, relational/psychodynamic approach during individual psychotherapy. I will assist you with getting to the root of the problem that has your present life in turmoil. We'll work together to find effective solutions and ways to cope with negative thoughts and feelings, friends, family, co-workers, and everyday life. You are here for a reason. You are not alone. My particular approach works well with clients who need to be seen weekly and not on a drop-in basis. Additionally, my approach does not work well with addiction challenges, substance use/abuse, and pain management challenges. Please choose another provider if you are looking for assistance with those challenges. If you are seeking someone to sign off on FMLA, EDD, SSI, Emotional Support Animal, time off work, Leave of Absence, accommodations, housing, ETC., I will refer you to your medical doctor and/or provider who you meet with in person. It is my policy not to write letters nor sign off on the above mentioned documents nor document similar to the above. ***Please complete and submit the Intake Paperwork 24 hours before your scheduled session. Please schedule yourself on the top of an hour (i.e. 3pm, 4pm, 5pm). I cannot accommodate appointments on the half hour (i.e. 3:30pm, 4:30pm, 5:30pm).
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you are facing. You will need to be an active participant in discussing your ongoing challenges. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I have a MA and PsyD in clinical psychology from Azusa Pacific University. I completed my BA in psychology at California State University, Long Beach. I have over 30 years in the mental health field. I am an attentive, insightful, caring individual therapist who frequently uses metaphors, humor, and Biblical examples. I believe everyone is valuable and worthy of connection. Mistakes are not the end-all. They are road maps that show you what your challenges are and opportunities for growth. I assist clients with examining their dreams for personal meaning. I also assist clients with processing past traumas (abandonment, sexual abuse, a victim of violence, grief/loss, domestic violence, etc.) to have a more enjoyable present and future with family and friends.
My ideal clients are BIPOC individual, adult females between the ages of 18 to 64 years old who have Christian(Trinity)-related concerns, depression, anxiety, PTSD, or relationship challenges. Clients need to be active participants during sessions. I assist clients with exploring their truths. I don't tell clients what to do. I don't give advice. As I work virtually, clients should not be actively suicidal or homicidal. Clients should already be stabilized on medication and connected with a primary care physician. Finally, I do not sign papers/documentations/letters or write letters for any purpose including but not limited to ESA, SSI, FMLA, time off work, etc. I will refer you to your medical doctor whom you meet with in person. I am not an appropriate provider for a client who is needing a letter.
During our sessions you will actively participate in focusing on the psychological roots of your emotional suffering. We'll examine unresolved conflicts and symptoms that arise from past dysfunctional relationships. We'll use our therapeutic relationship as a window into your problematic relationship patterns.
I believe that you are inherently motivated toward achieving positive psychological functioning with others. I also believe that you are the expert on yourself. My approach is non-directive. You will decide what is discussed.
I hold a Master of Arts and Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University. I am a therapist who provides non-directive Christian Counseling. During our sessions we will examine your life through biblical principles. We will explore how God wants to move you toward personal wholeness, interpersonal competence, mental stability, and spiritual maturity.
