(she/her)
Hi! My name is Tish Wakefield, and I am a clinical social worker licensed in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and California. I have been practicing for 25 years. I specialize in helping culturally diverse, LGBTQ+, and neurodivergent adults improve wellbeing, coping, and relationships. Hours are Monday - Thursday; I am based on the East Coast. I am trained to provide a safe and affirming space for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies. I look forward to helping you!
We'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing and what you hope to learn in therapy. We will create a tailored treatment plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
Having worked in the profession for 25 years, I practice using a variety of evidence-based therapy approaches. My most commonly used methods include client-centered therapy, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, emotion focused therapy, strengths and solutions focused therapy, and Gottman Method Couple Therapy.
The therapy methods I use are best suited for those who want to learn to use their strengths, capabilities, and resourcefulness. Clients can learn about the research on what makes relationships work. Please note: Unfortunately, I do not specialize in children/teens under 18, substance abuse issues, severe or life-threatening symptoms, or outside paperwork, consultations, or testimony.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I help clients accept challenges and commit to actions aligned with their values.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I work with expatriates, those repatriating to the US after time overseas, and clients who value their culture and identity.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
I help clients understand, name, and express their emotions, especially in the context of healthy relationships.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
For clients who are interested, I encourage the use of mindfulness practice to increase self-awareness, promote calm abiding, and cope with difficulties.
Gottman method
I help couples understand their Sound Relationship House and facilitate couple dialogue about how to reduce symptoms by strengthening their relationship.
