LMHC, 10 years of experience
I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor. I live in northeast Florida with my husband and our little dog, Libby. I graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary with my Master's of Counseling in 2011. I have been counseling for over 15 years. Struggles are a normal part of life and we all face them differently. I am passionate about normalizing them, working through shame and helping others heal, be whole, and live a life of resilience and hope.
I desire to create a safe space for you to be open about what brings you to counseling. Our first session will be a gathering of information by asking direct questions and more of a "big picture" of whatever you would like to share with me about your life. I always tell my clients that I usually write a lot in the first session and look very focused, so I can remember, but after our first session, I will not write as much or ask as many direct questions. After the first "gathering info" session, the following sessions will be much more guided by what you would like to focus on.
I have a physical vulnerability and have had my own struggles in life. This has produced great empathy for others who struggle and experience the hardships of life. It is with empathy, life experiences and the ability to listen well that are my greatest strengths. As an attachment based, psychodynamic counselor, I provide safety to my clients through nonjudgmental, compassionate listening, while also helping my clients gain self awareness and insight for themselves which can lead to hope and gentle growth. I am an eternal optimist, believing that healing and growth can happen for ANYONE, sometimes it just takes time and a whole lot of compassionate grace. I have a life quote, "Love is God's redemption in the struggle of life". Redemption is the concept that God can bring something beautiful and good from some of the ugliest and most painful parts of our lives. People providing safe spaces in love, a listening ear, wise guidance, and unconditional acceptance and grace are some of the ways God redeems. This has been my story and I am compelled to live this redemption by providing these same safe spaces to others who need it.
I understand areas of life that make one feel stuck, helpless, or even worthless. I provide counseling with empowering compassion and tools for hopeful change. I have found that my style and approach work well with clients who are struggling with life change/transitions, chronic health concerns, crisis of faith, significant mental health concerns, depression, feelings of meaninglessness, anxiety, trauma, addictions, co-dependency, and relationship struggles. I believe that healing comes in layers and is, oftentimes, a process. Counseling can be frightful as one starts to talk about themselves and layers begin to be revealed. This is normal and it is ok. I encourage my clients not to be afraid to struggle through the discomfort of healing because there is restoration of life waiting on the other side. The struggle is a normal part of life, but it is important to know how to live within it and overcome it. I love the quote from my favorite TV show, Lost, "struggle is nature's way of strengthening us". I want to help my clients process the struggle and get through it with hope, faith, resiliency, and a deeper awareness of self and others. I believe each person, no matter the struggle or vulnerability, has great worth and has been created in love, by God’s deep love. With this in mind, I believe it is possible to live a full life, no matter what is going on, or what we are feeling and struggling with. I really enjoy helping my clients explore who they are, how they can heal, be healthy and live out that health in relationships with self, God and others. I am passionate about helping others embrace a life of fullness and heal - no matter the pain, vulnerability, or obstacle. Hope and healing are possible - living fully is possible. I use an eclectic series of approaches to help my clients live this reality of hope and joy. These approaches may include cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance commitment therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, spiritual formation, 12 steps, and journaling. I also utilize the Christian faith in our counseling sessions for those whose faith is important to them.
I am holistic in my approach to counseling, incorporating emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of one’s life into our sessions. As a faith based therapist, I am able to incorporate your spiritual beliefs ans part of your therapeutic journey and as a client desires, can incorporate spiritual formation practices, such as prayer and meditation into our time together.
How we have learned to be in relationships with others has a deep impact on how we view ourselves and the world around us. As part of treatment, I believe it is important to look at one’s attachment patterns exploring how early attachment experiences with caregivers influence current relationships, self-esteem, and emotional regulation. I desire to create safety throughout time together so that clients can process emotions, develop trust, and learn healthier ways of relating, countering negative expectations from past relationships. Attachment based therapy also emphasizes repairing relational wounds by fostering trust, safety, and emotional attunement, not only in therapy but also in relationships with significant others, such as partners or family members.
Because life is ever changing, filled with struggles and joys, I find that Acceptance Commitment Therapy helps clients live more meaningful lives no matter what one is facing - by increasing psychological flexibility—the ability to adapt to changing circumstances while staying aligned with personal values. Through the use of ACT, clients will learn to live mindfully, with acceptance, purpose, awareness and active intention.
The goal of psychodynamic therapy is increased self awareness, emotional processing, and relief from anxiety, depression, low self esteem and other struggles that keep us from living life freely. Psychodynamic therapy is useful for helping to understand unconscious conflicts/beliefs and their impact on current life. It also helps clients uncover unresolved emotions, reducing their influence on behavior. When one can understand the “why”, it is helpful for understanding what and how to heal and grow. Psychodynamic Therapy also provides insight into maladaptive relational patterns by understanding how early experiences shape current interactions and how one can change learned relationship patterns, so they can in turn develop healthy relationships. The end goal is always personal growth! Through psychodynamic therapy, we can foster together greater emotional resilience, self-understanding, and the ability to live more authentically!

It’s hard to put in words how amazing she is. She listens so well and is so intelligent. She has revealed so much about myself. I love her prayers at the end. It makes me teary eyed each time she thanks me for meeting with her. I feel like she truly cares and wants unity for our marriage. She is also solution oriented and adds humor in. You can see Jesus radiating through her.
