12 years of experience

Hello! My name is Dana Abbey and I have been a fully licensed psychotherapist established in the mental health field for 12 years. Over the course of these years I have worked in settings such as emergency rooms, residential treatment programs, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, schools, and outpatient clinics. This has afforded me a well rounded understanding of all aspects of mental healthcare. In the recent years I have incorporated telehealth into practice, allowing greater accessibility and convenience to more clients while providing the same results as in person therapy. I have enjoyed working the platform so much that I plan to exclusively use telehealth for my outpatient practice clients!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

It is normal to be nervous your first session! I understand you are coming to treatment at an extremely vulnerable time in your life. Please be assured it’s my highest priority to provide a compassionate, safe, non-judgmental environment where you can be your most authentic self.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe (and confirmed by my clients!) that my greatest strength is my empathic nature and compassion for human beings. I genuinely care about the well being of others and will always be an advocate for their needs.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I would describe my ideal client as one who is motivated for change and willing to “put in the work”. I have found that a clients commitment to the process of recovery is the most important predictor of success, regardless of their diagnosis. I would love to collaboratively work together to achieve all of your personal goals.

My treatment methods

Integrative

You are a unique individual and deserve more than cookie-cutter "workbook" therapy when meeting with a licensed therapist. It is important for a therapist to take all aspects of your health into account when formulating an approach to your treatment. Using the biopsychosocial model of psychotherapy, I will create a treatment plan that includes information about your physical health, thoughts, emotions, and social influences that impact your well-being. After our initial session I will then make recommendations of the most effective forms of psychotherapy and interventions for your presenting concerns.
