Hi! I am Joycelyn Smith, LPC. I am a graduate of Georgia State University where I received my Master's degree in Professional counseling. I have been counseling and apart of the mental/behavioral health field for over 10 years. I support young to middle age adults with managing some of life's most distressing moments that include but not limited to: adjusting to life's changes, anxiety, stress management.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're experiencing for me to gather information that will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a provider is my ability to establish a strong therapeutic alliance with my clients. The is most important because the therapeutic process requires vulnerability and honesty that, if there is no comfort and trust established, the effectiveness can be non-existent. Clients have often shared they have felt validated, understood, yet challenged to grow /heal with helpful strategies shared or through revelations ('ah ha') moments from talk therapy. Secondly, my diverse experience with providing counseling with people from all different walks of life, have allowed me to tap into identifying needs and evidence based interventions that are effective.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Because CBT focuses on how thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes affect your feelings and actions, I use this treatment method to address common mood issues (i.e. anxiety, stress management, anger management, A.D.H.D). Implementation of this treatment method includes exercises(i.e journal entries, worksheets) that provide coping techniques and strategies to learn to apply to thought processes.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution Focused treatment is an approach that as the name suggests focuses on solutions rather than the problem that may have brought one to therapy. This is helpful for those who are more solution oriented and want to address minor issues that are impacting them day to day and want to participate in counseling short-term.
