My name is Morgan Hartman and I received my BA in Art at Illinois Wesleyan University and then my master’s degree in Art Therapy from Illinois State University. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois. In my academic studies, I was able to shape my deepest philosophy about finding creative ways to uplift people’s spirits, focus on solutions, and put ideas into action. As a student of yoga in my spare time, I further believe that wellness stems from our ability to maintain a fluid connection between mind-body-spirit. My 9 years of professional experience in the counseling field has been gathered from working with people who experience a variety of difficulties. My specialties include substance abuse, eating disorders, depression and other mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, stress, relationship difficulties, and grief. I am certified in suicide prevention (Safe Talk) and working towards a certification in substance abuse. Most importantly, I’ve learned that we are all better when we work together, so whatever difficulty you are facing, please know you are not alone!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I guarantee a judgement-free environment full of hope and understanding. The counseling relationship is critical, and I hope to earn your trust swiftly and earnestly. We will discuss what brings you to the counseling space, and then collaborate on a plan for moving forward. I would strive to draw upon your strengths, perhaps help you uncover your own solutions, and then come up with a plan to implement them into your life.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I mainly use Cognitive-Behavioral techniques, with a person-centered, solution-focused approach. I believe your thoughts have power over your perceptions and behaviors, and perhaps if we increase your mindfulness and self-awareness, we can tune in to the source of the discord. From there, we will develop some specific and effective coping skills and strategies to help you back onto the life path you desire.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a great fit for people with addictions, anxiety, depression, grief, and life's challenges. I am LGBTQ friendly. I believe the counselor-counselee relationship should be fluid and collaborative and I strive to build on your strengths, provide a safe place to learn and grow, and to create a dynamic that is trusting and safe. I use cognitive-behavioral and person-centered approaches that is solution-focused and paced by you.
