Hi, my name is Kwang Kim. I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Family Nurse Practitioner. I have experience working with adolescents and adults in multiple settings facing various complex mental health issues, including ADHD, trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and mood disorders. I approach each patient as a unique individual and tailor the patient's care accordingly using a combination of medication management and talk therapy. My family nurse practitioner background builds onto my mental health care expertise and ensures I provided my clients with holistic, patient-centered care.
Generally, the first session is all about ensuring I have ample data for us to develop a treatment plan. This may include reviewing past psychiatric, medical, or family history as well as reviewing any current or prior treatments you (the client) have received such as medication, therapy, or interventional treatments like ketamine. I will ask you about your needs, expectations, and learn what makes your mental health journey unique to you. Medication, if desired and recommended, may or may not be provided at the first session depending on the nature of the visit. Treatment may include a variety of components: medication management, psychotherapy, referrals to higher levels of care, screening tools, lab work, and more.
I feel that the question of “what are my greatest strengths?” is best told from the perspective of my clients. Words my clients have used to describe me include compassionate, approachable, caring, a good listener, knowledgeable, respectful, and professional, to name a few. One thing my clients always appreciate is that I believe in empowering them with the tools they need to improve their mental health. If this sounds like what you are looking for, then we would be a good match.
My ideal client is someone ready to take charge of their mental health. I have experience treating a broad range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and psychosis. Since I believe in a collaborative approach, we will work together to determine a treatment plan that meets your needs.
In every client session my focus is to provide emotional support, encouragement, and validation during difficult life circumstances or psychological challenges.
