Hello, I’m Faith McFarland, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and founder of Healing Haven Counseling Services. I specialize in supporting individuals facing internal pain, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, anxiety, depression, trauma, or significant life changes. My approach is to help clients identify their goals, build effective coping strategies, and strengthen self-worth and confidence. I believe trust is earned, and I am committed to creating a safe space where you can process your emotions and experiences at your own pace.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I understand that the first steps in therapy—finding a counselor and attending the first session—can be the most challenging. In our initial session, my goal is to help you feel comfortable and acknowledge the important step you've already taken toward healing. We'll spend time getting to know each other and identifying your therapy goals. I also recognize that trust is earned, and I am committed to creating a safe space where you feel supported in exploring your thoughts and feelings."

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my greatest strengths as a provider lie in my ability to connect with and deeply understand my clients. Whether working with a teenager who feels misunderstood or an adult struggling with intrusive thoughts, I take pride in creating a space where clients feel heard, validated, and supported. My strong sense of empathy allows me to connect on a meaningful level, enabling me to accurately perceive and reflect their emotions. This skill often helps me articulate the struggles they may have difficulty expressing themselves, fostering a therapeutic relationship built on trust and understanding.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I help clients explore the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, while teaching healthy coping skills and emotional expression. Additionally, I assist in identifying and replacing unhelpful or unrealistic thoughts with more constructive and realistic ones.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I have advanced training and national certification in this area, specializing in working with children and teens (up to age 17) to process and heal from abuse. Using this approach, I help clients understand trauma, develop coping skills, improve communication, and explore their thoughts and feelings. Through storytelling in therapy, I guide clients in healing emotional wounds and empowering them to take control of their lives moving forward.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

This type of therapy is centered on the client's goals and priorities. My role is to help clients identify their objectives, support them through challenges, and offer gentle guidance when needed.

Trauma Informed Care

Through a trauma-informed approach, I work with clients at their own pace, creating a safe space to explore and process past experiences. Together, we identify coping skills, challenge harmful thoughts, and build self-worth, with the goal of improving quality of life and reducing trauma-related symptoms.
