Hello! My name is D'Arthana Lorenzo Burrell, and I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I specialize in medication management and therapy. I help young adults experiencing stress and burnout to regain control of their mental health, and establish and maintain healthy boundaries. I collaborate with all of my clients to ensure that their plan of treatment is based on evidence based practices that reflect their personal values.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our initial encounter is scheduled for 60 minutes but can extend beyond that per client need. That time is spent completing a thorough assessment of the experiences that shape the client's story. After helping the client identify their unique strengths, I collaborate with my patients by sharing my understanding of their main concerns, my initial ideas for their treatment plan and listen to their feedback to ensure the plan aligns with their personal beliefs and values. The treatment plan may entail medication, therapy and diagnostic testing to ensure there are no existing medical conditions whose symptoms mimic mental health symptoms.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I genuinely care about my client's story and I am fully invested in their success. The most common feedback I receive pertain to my listening skills, humor, and my detail-oriented approach to fully capturing the context of my client's experience. In a very short time, I have formed trusted provider-client relationships that last beyond recovery.

My treatment methods

Faith based therapy

We are spiritual beings having an earthly experience. This approach employs elements of cognitive behavioral therapy to help reshape perspectives and pull strength from an unlimited source beyond us.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

One of the most effective modalities used in therapy to identify self-sabotaging narratives and replace them with healthier perspectives.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)

This method entails a review of the client's current sleeping regimen to introduce healthier habits that support uninterrupted and restful sleep.

Motivational Interviewing

A form of interviewing that helps clients to identify strengths they may or may not have been aware of. This empowers the client as they are able to participate in their own recovery through solutions gleaned from their own thoughts.
