Welcome ! Something in your life has initiated this search for support and you have come to the right place. I applaud you. My name is Victoria, and I am both a licensed professional therapist and a Nationally Certified Counselor in the state of Florida. I have worked with individuals experiencing a variety of issues including substance abuse, depression and anxiety, family conflict, trauma, stress-related issues, communication challenges, self-esteem, and many more. I have extensive experience working with Trauma and am trained in providing Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During your first session we will start off by discussing whats bringing you in to therapy. I will take as much time as you need to answer any questions you may have either about myself or therapy. I know firsthand how scary and difficult it can be to make the big decision to reach out for help. I like taking the first session at a pace you feel comfortable with. Then once comfortable, we will work together to build a plan of action in order to get you to a place where at the end of therapy you feel you have reached your goals. If you aren't sure what your goals are yet, that is ok. We can work together to identify your personal goals and the best route to get you there.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

When it comes to therapy I want you to feel accepted and supported in a peaceful space. My years of experience, personal and professional, are my greatest strengths. I have acquired experiences (lived experiences plus educational knowledge) to pass along to my patients that provide a connection of rapport and understanding.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)

Cognitive behavioral therapy is used to treat a wide range of issues. It's often the preferred type of psychotherapy because it can quickly help you identify and cope with specific challenges. CBT involves efforts to change thinking patterns that may be leading to unwanted thoughts that then lead to negative behaviors. During sessions we utilize CBT to learn how to recognize one's distortions in thinking that are directly creating some of those life problem areas. This may also involve questioning some of those thinking patterns and working on not only replacing them with more healthy thought cycles but also utilizing associated coping skills in everyday life to continue to work towards a more positive way of functioning.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT focuses on living in the moment, developing healthy ways to cope with unpleasant emotions, learning how to be flexible with our feelings, and improving our relationships with ourselves and others. DBT is essentially learning the skills necessary to help you effectively manage your life, including thoughts, emotions, crisis management, and grounding techniques (mindfulness). DBT works for multiple mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more. The main focus is learning and practicing effective coping skills, and unlearning the maladaptive behaviors and thoughts that have been wrecking our lives. We utilize DBT in sessions and practice coping skills together to continue to put into practice way after sessions have concluded.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic approach used to treat trauma-related disorders, anxiety, and other emotional distress. It involves a structured protocol that combines elements of exposure therapy, cognitive processing, and bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements, but can also be auditory or tactile stimulation). The bilateral stimulation is believed to facilitate the brain's natural healing process by enhancing the integration of distressing memories and promoting adaptive information processing. This can lead to reduced emotional intensity, a shift in negative beliefs about oneself, and the development of more adaptive coping mechanisms.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Person-centered therapy is a humanistic approach that believes the client is naturally driven towards growth, and when the counselor provides a supportive and non-judgmental relationship, they'll be able to more fully and honestly explore and understand themselves. As a person-centered therapist I believe that when you treat people with unconditional positive regard and authentically, genuinely engage in an empathic relationship with someone, they will become more at ease with being themselves. What I personally enjoy about this therapy is it takes the counselor out of the expert role and empowers you as the client to feel more in control to explore your experiences, values, reactions, all the things that make you the unique individual you are. With this type of an approach, I dont try to force you into change, but allow you to naturally change as you explore more of yourself in sessions.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential/adventure therapy. I have extensive experience with adventure/experiential therapy. I have found clients find its easier to openly speak about challenges and complete sessions when doing things such as going for a walk at their favorite park, sitting down and getting coffee or while doing your favorite hobby. Please reach out if you would like to obtain more information.
