Therapist with 20+ years post graduate experience. I have two areas of expertise that I have focused my work on, which often cross over into one another. The first is trauma work, helping clients who have PTSD, Depression and Anxiety from past trauma. My extensive experience working with active duty military, Veterans, as well as those who have trauma from childhood and adolescence can help you deal effectively with your symptoms to reduce them so you can start to enjoy life again. The second focus of work has been working with LGBTQ clients. Helping them deal with accepting themselves, coming out to family and friends, difficulty they might had in school because of their being different, “not fitting in.”

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session together is a time for you to express your reasons for wanting to be in therapy, to ask questions about myself, to learn about my therapeutic style. It is also a time for me to learn more about you, understanding your history, what made you you. Build trust, respect and a therapeutic alliance so you feel comfortable, safe, and open to exploring new ways of not Justina dealing with life but thriving in life.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I use Evidence Based Practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy, emotionally focused therapy and strength based therapy. At times I will utilize problem solving skills and life coaching. There WILL be homework, if only to review what we covered in session. My communication style is direct, personable, with a little humor thrown in as appropriate. My clients usually describe me as empathic, direct, humorous, insightful.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I have over 15 years experience using Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) in my work at military hospitals, Veteran Hospitals and private practice. CPT is an evidence based practice that has over 20 years of research that have proven high rates of effectiveness in the treatment of PTSD. It is considered one of the “gold standards” of treatment for its ability to test trauma from any cause including but not limited to childhood abuse, sexual trauma, combat trauma.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Been treating clients with CBT 22 years. CBT is very effective in treating anxiety, depression. It is very easily explained, understood, and to integrate the principles of it into everyday actions. Through our work in session along with the homework assignments we create together clients have found CBT a valuable resource to help them not just overcome depression, anxiety, but also to feel more like themselves and thrive.
