About me

I am an highly experienced doctoral-level provider with an Ohio license for clinical psychology. I have been practicing in numerous settings throughout my long career, including working in institutions and in private practice. I am used to effectively treating the vast majority of individuals who walk through my door, giving me a wide-ranging skillset. I am a goal-oriented therapist, and I know that people who are coming to me are often in noteworthy distress, and it is my duty as your doctor to alleviate this distress. Working collaboratively is important, and knowing your goals for therapy is of utmost importance. My standards for myself for you is high; if you come to me with a specific diagnosis, and you do therapy with me and these conditions aren't being alleviated, then we are not meeting the objectives of therapy. If progress does not occur, then efforts will be made to try to discover why progress isn't occurring. Should you still not progress on your goals and diagnosis, I will be open to finding you a provider who might help. Having been a generalist provider, my best skills are for those that present the most in the population, including depression disorders, anxiety disorders and trauma. I employ prolonged exposure as my technique for helping traumatized people, and this would be an excellent treatment for individuals who are new to trauma processing or have failed and EMDR.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I will work in the first session to accurately diagnose the issue you are presenting with. I will relate what my conclusion are, or, what diagnosis I am suspecting if I have been unable to diagnose with certainty. I will let you know how we can get more certainty to resolve this. Most of the time, I will have a sense of the person's diagnosis, and then I will work to build a treatment plan with you. This includes me informing you of the techniques I am planning on using, and how successful they have been with patients historically. I will encourage that the patient research the diagnosis I have provided, and provide educational information after building the treatment plan. If the patient endorses the treatment plan and treatment techniques, then I will plan on proceeding with these techniques in the second session. I will review the information at the start of the second session, and see if the patient is still interest in proceeding. Finding the right therapist for you might be a very idiosyncratic process. I have had previous patients swear by my work and techniques, while I have others that just fail to make a connection with me. A personal connection with your therapist can be an important element of having success in therapy, and should a person feel like there is a problem in their connection with me, I would hope that they would mention it to me. If there isn't any reconciliation of these issues, I would then refer the person on to a colleague with the hope that this connection might occur.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My long experience, my high level of education, and my dedication to research grounded techniques have me offer a level of skill which would be difficult to find. I am very devoted to alleviating the suffering of people around me, and will work passionately for the wellbeing of those I serve. Being an eclectic therapist, I do not press a philosophical agenda. I am interested in what works, as demonstrated by research. This approach help me have access to therapeutic tools that might be unavailable to some providers. Also, I see people as people, equal in all regards. I have respect for people who are very different than I am, knowing that these differences might be very important for understanding you and your story, and will do my best to understand your experience in spite of differences that might exist.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with goal-oriented individuals who are able to speak directly about the distress they are experiencing. I embrace that in the therapeutic relationship, we are working entirely for an objective, with is the alleviation of symptoms and distress.
