I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Kentucky who has been practicing since 2021. I have a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from Walden University, and A BSN degree from Galen College of Nursing. I am currently working towards earning a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) degree at Capella University. I primarily have experience in assisting patients in acute and subacute inpatient care settings and have over 10 years of experience working as a registered nurse on acute medical and psychiatric units prior to practicing as an APRN. I specialize in providing patient-centered quality, compassionate, comprehensive, and supportive mental health services to adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will start with brief introductions, and then discuss specific challenges you're experiencing. During this time, we will work together to plan and implement your specific plan of care and set goals for follow-up sessions. When planning and implementing care, I obtain both a comprehensive psychiatric and medical screening, and provide extensive education about potential risks and benefits of treatment options to assist patients with special medical considerations in making informed, health-conscious decisions about their care.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My experience has assisted me with developing strong clinical skills, enhanced by a compassionate and caring personality that allows me to naturally build genuine rapport with patients and families. I take a patient-centered approach while providing mental health services supported by evidence-based guidelines, combined with clinical experience, personal observation, and creativity. In my current position, I often assume a multifaceted role of medical provider, educator, mental health advocate, therapist, crisis counselor, and clinical preceptor.

Supportive

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I currently work with patients coping with stressors associated with chronic health conditions and other major life stressors in acute medical, psychiatric, and physical rehabilitation settings. I often utilize CBT interventions to assist patients with establishing healthy coping skills when dealing with difficult disorders, reduce negative emotions that exacerbate medical problems, and even reverse certain conditions related to depression, anxiety, stress and pain.

Psychoeducation

When planning and implementing care, I obtain both a comprehensive psychiatric and medical screening, and provide extensive education about potential risks and benefits of treatment options to assist patients with special medical considerations in making informed, health-conscious decisions about their care.

Trauma Informed Care

I commonly work with patients affected by complex traumas in their lives related to a wide array of psychosocial stressors such as combat-related PTSD, violence, physical and emotional abuse, sudden loss, injuries, accidents, healthcare-related trauma, discrimination, etc. I strive to provide trauma-informed care by providing a sense of safety and comfort, while assisting my patients with processing feelings related to trauma, understanding the effects of trauma, improving stress responses, and work towards regaining control and empowerment over their situations.
