My name is Jamie Buongiorno and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in California. I have ten years of experience working with people making changes in their lives and four years of experience as a licensed clinician. My therapy style is collaborative, non-judgmental and strengths based. When working with clients I strive to make the therapy experience genuine, supportive and specific to your concerns and goals. You are the expert of your life and my job is to assist and empower you as you make positive changes in your life. In my practice I draw from a variety of therapeutic techniques and therapy modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, internal family systems therapy, mindfulness and attachment theory. Seeking therapy can feel scary and I admire your courage in taking this first step! I would welcome the opportunity to work with you and look forward to connecting with you.
In our first session together we will talk about why you are seeking therapy and what you hope to accomplish in our work together. I'll also ask you more about yourself to get to know you better and you'll have the opportunity to ask me any questions you might have. In the first few sessions we will also create goals together, essentially a "roadmap" for therapy. Having goals also allows us to assess your progress over time.
In addition to being a licensed clinician I've worked as a social worker for over ten years. It's important to me to incorporate the values of social work into my therapy practice. These values include recognizing each person's innate worth and dignity, maintaining integrity and accountability, prioritizing relationships and connection and a focus on service and social justice. I love being a therapist and social worker and I truly feel so honored to walk alongside others striving to make meaningful change in their lives. It's important to me to show up as the best therapist I can be at every session.
I work with clients to address anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem and navigating life transitions.
I incorporate CBT in my practice to help you identify your thoughts, feelings and behaviors and how they contribute to the challenges you are dealing with. CBT is goal-oriented and together we can recognize and change unhelpful thought patterns and develop healthy coping skills.
