In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During a client's first session with me, my ultimate goal is to provide a safe space for my client as well as address, or identify, any and all concerns that they may have. I will be able to provide a thorough assessment of my client, a diagnoses, and plan of care that is suited to their needs. After sessions, clients can take away a better understanding of their mental health, an understanding of their personalized treatment plan, as well as the sense of feeling heard and understood. My ultimate goal is to provide a safe and caring environment for each of my clients, in which they can develop a better understanding of their mental health, and can walk away feeling as if they were treated appropriately.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
As a Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner, what I have identified as some of my greatest strengths is my ability to empathize with my clients. Often times, I am told that my willingness to listen and get to my clients sets me apart from others. I deeply try to understand my client and their experiences without placing any judgement, and to make them feel heard and supported. Other strengths is my ability to be flexible, as well as adapt to my clients needs. I understand that each client is different and my approach, as well as my treatment plan, should be individualized. Being a woman of color, as well as through my experiences in diverse backgrounds, I believe I am culturally sensitive and inclusive. I respect the various backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of all individuals. Through these experiences I am able to ensure a personalized and affirming form of treatment to my clients.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I am best positioned to serve clients who: -Need emotional support and coping strategies. -Benefit from psychoeducation and practical Skills -Seek a nonjudgmental and supportive environment. -Prefer a strength-based and solution-focused approach -Need short-term or ongoing supportive therapy
Supportive
With each of my clients, I strive to establish a strong therapeutic alliance in order to build trust and rapport with my client. I incorporate active listening, reflective questioning, and empathy in order to create a safe space, provide validation to their experiences and emotions, as well as to promote insight and problem-solving. I offer encouragement and reassurance to my clients, and through this I am able to help my clients recognize their strengths and normalize their feelings. In each session I strive to identify any existing coping mechanisms and reinforce effective ones that will benefit the client most. I believe psychoeducation plays a key role with treatment, and this form of education promotes emotional regulation, relationships, and mental health. As our sessions move on, I will monitor the progress of my client and acknowledge improvements and efforts on their behalf. I adjust my level of support based on their progress and needs, as well as reinforce self-efficacy by highlighting how my client have handled any challenges they may have encountered in the past.
