My name is Ramsey Khader. I earned my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and am a licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of California. I have worked with a wide range of clients, from individuals dealing with a serious mental illness to those who needed support with a specific issue or navigating a stressful circumstance in their life. I first became interested in becoming a psychologist when I learned people react differently even when dealing with the same problems or circumstances. Individuals dealing with the same mental issues still needed to be treated as a person not as their diagnosis.
The first session is the intake session. In the intake session, I will ask you a lot of questions about the presenting problem, your life, and your history. This is so I can get an idea of what's going on and what factors may be contributing to the reason you are seeking treatment.
I have experience working with many different populations, including those who are contemplating suicide and prisoners on death row. Due to this, I am rarely shocked and will not judge my clients for what they say or for things they have done in their lives. My past clients have told me that it helps them feel more comfortable talking to me, knowing that I'm not going to be rattled by what they say.
I've worked with a wide range of clients, but have specialized with those dealing with personality disorders and serious mental illness. I've also worked with clients who suffer from anxiety and depression, or clients who have too much stress in their daily lives. An ideal client is someone who can be honest about their feelings regarding their treatment, because then I can make adjustments to tailor treatment to their needs.
The idea behind CBT is that an individual's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected, and that by chnaging one we can change the others. I often use CBT when clients wish to change habits or behaviors that have negatively affected their lives. These could be habits the clients are aware are harming their lives, but are struggling to change. I was trained in CBT with numerous different populations and have been implementing it as a treatment method throughout the entirety of my clinical experience.
Multicultural therapy involves incorporating the client's cultural background into the treatment process. It's important to spend time in therapy, not just learning about a client's culture, but working to understand the relationship the client has with their culture. I've incorporated aspects of a multicultural model with every client I have worked with.
Forensic Psychology is treatment for individuals who are involved in the legal system. Throughout my career, I have done therapy with incarcerated individuals and done outpatient treatment with individuals released from state hospitals. I have extensive experience with serious mental illness, such as Schizophrenia, as well as a number of personality disorders.
Eclectic treatment involves incorporating a plethora of different treatment modalities. The focus of eclectic therapy is to use the modality or modalities best suited to treat the client's presenting problem. As opposed to having a one-size-fits-all approach, eclectic treatment focuses on customizing treatment to best address the client's needs.
