Hello! I'm Dr. Jesse, a board certified psychiatrist who practices in Northeastern Pennsylvania. I obtained a bachelor's degree in Biology with a Chemistry Minor and a Health Sciences degree. I attended medical school and graduated in 2004. I attended West Virginia University for the four year psychiatry residency program. I hosted grand rounds and was chief resident my last year. Afterwards, I returned to Pennsylvania and have worked in outpatient clinics and prisons. I've run a crisis response unit and been a medical director for more than one location. I opened my private practice in 2017. At this time, I practice in my office, serve as a medical director for a drug and alcohol facility, provide supervision to students, and work as a collaborating physician with a wonderful group of nurse practitioners.
I will definitely ask a lot of questions! I want to know as much as I can about you. Points that we will touch on include: the current symptoms and issues, your medical history, drug and alcohol use, your social life, and family history. If you've been on medications before, I'll want to know which ones worked or didn't work (and why). I don't expect to learn it all in our first meeting but over time, my goal is to really get to know you and understand your situation and life circumstances. I'll want to know your expectations and your goals.
As a provider, I am competent, up to date with all the medications (new and old), punctual and have strong communication skills. No one is perfect, we are all changing and evolving. The person you are today is not the same person you were 5 or even 10 years ago. I never expect the perfect patient because no one is perfect. I'll treat you with respect and listen to what you want or don't want! I love to educate and explain your options and choices.
I have treated many different psychiatric illnesses, including: depression, ADHD, OCD, anxiety, mood issues (bipolar I or bipolar II), eating disorders, sleep disorders, intellectual disabilities, memory problems (like dementia, traumatic brain injury) and psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, schizoaffective). Over the last five years, I have become an expert on treating tardive dyskinesia (even through telehealth). While I can't say I've seen it all, after more than 15 years in the field, I have definitely seen a lot. I have the capability to provide psychiatric care to any patient - whether the problem is a simple or complex. The patient I am best positioned to serve is one who wants change, is motivated, and willing to work with me. Most of the time, a patient will need regular sessions with me. But once they're stable and doing well, check-in visits are acceptable to me.
I've been trained in cognitive behavioral, group, dialectical behavioral, supportive, and psychodynamic therapies. I utilize a mix of these techniques in addition to offering medication management. If a patient has a therapist, I like to connect with them.
