Hi! I'm glad you're here! My name is Tricia Houghtby and I am a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with a decade of experience helping individuals navigate life's challenges. With licenses in both Vermont and Florida, I have had the privilege of supporting clients from diverse backgrounds in their journeys towards healing and growth. Specializing in areas such as stress and anxiety, LGBTQ+ related issues, trauma and abuse, self-esteem, and confidence building, I like to approach therapy with a deep understanding of the unique struggles individuals may face. I believe it is important to create a safe and nonjudgmental space where people can explore their thoughts and emotions freely. I look forward to moments of shared laughter, yet I also recognize the importance of delving into deeper and more challenging reflections. Whether we're sharing light-hearted moments or exploring complex emotions, I want you to know that I'm here to support you every step of the way. As a clinician I tailor the therapeutic approach to meet the specific needs of each person, drawing from a diverse range of modalities including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based techniques, existential, motivational and narrative therapy. With an integrative approach this ensures that each person receives individualized care that resonates with their personal experiences. Above all, it is my hope that kindness, warmth, and genuine care for each person will be reflected in your experience as we explore your goals. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship and strive to create an environment where people feel accepted, understood, and supported. Whether you're seeking to overcome past traumas, manage stress and anxiety, explore your identity, or enhance your self-esteem, I am here to walk alongside you on your journey towards healing and self-discovery.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

First sessions are very much about getting to know the clients needs and their personal style. Do you prefer casual conversation or do you have a direction you know you want to go. I always seek to tailor the experience that best works for the client. I do hope that with some flexibility comes along with being open to hearing a new perspective from the therapist as well. If it's not a fit that's okay! Don't give up. We will try to get you connected to someone you feel more comfortable with.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Compassion, empathy, non-judgmental. Those are qualities that I hope come across with my genuine care for your best interest!

My treatment methods

Gender-affirming therapy

As a practitioner in a health services field it is essential that ALL persons feel welcomed and are able to access care that is free of bias and works to improve quality of life. Everyone has a right to self-determination and bodily autonomy. By aligning their bodies with their gender identity, people can experience reduced distress, improved self-esteem, and better social functioning. Therefore it is an ethical imperative to work to reduce any barriers in a clients life, as best as possible, to improve functioning.

Feminist

I believe it is difficult to address a multitude of issues when root causes are reflected in systematic oppression. I seek to empower clients by recognizing and addressing the social, cultural, and political factors that influence their lives, while promoting self-awareness, agency,

Existential

Existential therapy is particularly well-suited for individuals grappling with existential concerns, such as life transitions, identity issues, grief, and existential crisis. By exploring these themes in therapy, clients can develop greater self-awareness, resilience, and a deeper sense of purpose and meaning in their lives.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

When utilizing CBT I like to identify unhelpful thinking styles and work towards restructuring sometimes long held thoughts and beliefs that no longer serve the person. This lends itself to working towards activating behaviors through at times self guided exposure to negative stimulus.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Through cognitive defusion, mindfulness, and clarification of values the therapist and client can create psychological flexibility through an empathetic and non-judgmental relationship.
