My name is James Valinoti. I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental health Nurse Practitioner, PMHNP-BC. I see clients across the lifespan including young children. I try to make the experience a positive, supportive and at times fun one. I am very clinical but I remove the "clinical feeling" from the experience. I am very client focused and develop unique treatment plans that actually help them achieve their goals. I treat numerous areas of psychiatry including, ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, PTSD and Trauma, sleep and appetite, Schizophrenia, and disorders involving: OCD, ODD, personality, and eating disorders. I also treat addiction.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My communication style Patients can expect that any anxiety they may have experienced in anticipation of the "first meeting" will quickly be replaced by feeling more relaxed, comfortable and in a better mood and more confident after the meeting then prior to it. They can also expect that their needs will be addressed and that they will feel they have been "heard" by me. I am very real and quite different then most in this regard as I treat my patients as I would a family member, and they can definitely feel it.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I oftentimes utilize humor and my clients engage particularly well. I have clients for many years who oftentimes say I should do standup psychiatry. My clients oftentimes ask me how I know them so well. I am famous for actively listening. My clients feel they receive my clinical expertise without feeling the clinical aspects of what one may expect in psychiatry. I am also highly supportive and provide relevant health education. I utilize a team-based approach. I don't speak at my clients I speak with them. My journey to mental healthcare After having come from the business world (post MBA- MIT), I started feeling as though I wanted to make more of a real difference in the lives of people- sort of a "higher calling" feeling. I chose mental health, more specifically psychiatry, as I feel it is something with which every single person has some difficulty with and I have always been amazed by the brain and how it functions. I feel particularly happy and satisfied when my clients share how "wonderful" they feel after working on themselves. I love when my clients share with me that they feel like our sessions are like having a conversation at lunch with a friend sharing pizza. My goals for you Utilizing a team-based approach, I work with my clients to learn where they are and where they would like to be. I provide good feedback and we oftentimes work through several iterations of short, medium and long term goals.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I generally use CBT, cognitive Behavioral Therapy with MI, Motivational Interviewing. I also use supportive therapy. I learn about each individual client and piece together my client's "story" so as to understand where they have been, where they are, and where they need/want to go. I also get to the "why" for each client, which is oftentimes the most important question. I oftentimes utilize humor and my clients engage particularly well. I have clients for many years who oftentimes say I should do standup psychiatry.

Child Parent Psychotherapy

I utilize effective communication skills between parent and child in a real world focus approach.

Motivational Interviewing

Goals and pathways an individual desires are looked at as a tool insofar as how can we best get there.
