Hello, I am Jill, and Welcome! First off, kudos to you for taking the step to join the world of therapy. It can feel a little intimidating, especially if you've not been here before. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor from Ohio, while I am also licensed in Michigan, having lived there for 20+ years. I earned my Master of Arts in Counseling degree from Central Michigan University in 2003 (Fire up, Chips!) and my Master of Social Work degree from The Ohio State University in 2023 (O-H!) I have 20+ years of experience working with all ages of people from early childhood through older adults, using a variety of evidence-based treatments in a safe, compassionate, supportive environment. I am excited to meet you and help you along in your journey. I am certain we can do great work together!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will start with introductions and get to know each other a little bit, and then work together to develop a plan on what you would like to work on during our time together. I believe in creating a safe, compassionate environment to help you feel comfortable sharing and exploring your challenges and needs.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength is my ability to connect with people and create a safe space for them to explore their inner world, life challenges, and obstacles in the way. I'll also add that in my 20+ years of experience, I have worked with a lot of different people with different backgrounds and concerns. I feel confident that I have the tools needed to help the clients I serve make positive changes in their lives.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented type of talk therapy. It can help manage mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety, and emotional concerns, such as coping with grief or stress. I like that CBT helps each person gain insight into their internal thoughts, and the ways in which those thoughts are connected to our feelings and beliefs about what is happening with us. CBT challenges each person to take their wellbeing into their own hands and make positive changes in their lives.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of talk therapy for people who experience emotions very intensely. It’s a common therapy for people with borderline personality disorder, but therapists provide it for other mental health conditions as well. DBT is a type of CBT, and I have used it with many patients who go on to report how helpful it is, in particular with the use of its coping skills and interpersonal interactions.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) is a strength-based approach to psychotherapy based on solution-building rather than problem-solving. In the use of this therapy, I become the questioner, the guide, to help the client gain insight into and develop their own solutions to challenges they are experiencing.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a technique for increasing motivation to change and has proven to be particularly effective with people that may feel stuck. Motivational interviewing has helped many clients I have worked with gain insight into how they can be more proactive in choices they make and be more motivated for positive change.
