Dr. Alexis Westbrook is an African American clinical psychologist who specializes in a trauma-focused approach to treat relational issues. During the intake session one can expect a welcoming and supportive environment that acknowledges and respects their unique experiences and identity. The intake session is a crucial time for building rapport, gathering information, and setting the stage for future therapeutic work.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

Treatment methods utilizes include, but are not limited to, an integrated model which includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic Therapy. CBT assists with identifying negative thoughts and behavior while also creating space to modify them by way of fostering healthier coping strategies. Mindfulness cultivates present-moment awareness, reducing reactivity and promoting self-compassion and emotional regulation. Psychodynamic therapy explores unconscious patterns and unresolved conflicts, providing insight into their impact on thoughts, feelings, and relationships. The integration of these approaches assists with my ability to tailor the therapeutic experience and address the cognitive, emotional, and relational needs of each client.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

In clinical practice, I prioritize my understanding and focus on the long-lasting impact traumatic experience. I recognize that trauma can have wide-ranging effects on individuals' lives (i.e., thoughts, emotions, behaviors, etc.), impacting not only their lives but also the lives others they may be in community with. As a result, within clinical practice, I also prioritize a focus on relational-informed therapy. Relational-informed therapy focuses on exploring and improving relational dynamics, both past and present, with an understanding that the quality of one's relationships can profoundly influence their mental health and wellbeing.
