Hello there! My name is Jennifer Howard-Leonce, and I am excited to collaborate with you on your mental health journey. As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (#S8047) and a National Certified Counselor, I have gained immense experience working as a middle school counselor for 15 years. I have also received advanced training in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders from Postpartum Support International. My passion lies in assisting clients in identifying their strengths and weaknesses, setting achievable goals based on their strengths, and helping them bring about positive changes in their lives. Remember, you are not alone in this journey! Together, we can identify the barriers that hinder your healing process, build on your skills, and boost your confidence to enable you to live the life you deserve.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first few sessions will primarily focus on introductions and understanding the reasons behind your decision to seek counseling. This will help me better understand how I can support you. In our first session, we will discuss your current concerns, goals, and any questions you might have. My role is to guide you through this journey towards a better life. If you feel that we could work well together, please feel free to contact me.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a therapist, my strongest qualities include my ability to empathize with my clients, active listening skills, and a deep understanding of human psychology. I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where my clients feel comfortable opening up and exploring their emotions. My main focus areas include improving relationships with partners, family members, and colleagues by recognizing and addressing unhealthy behaviors. Additionally, I help build self-confidence and inner strength, guiding my clients towards their own definition of happiness. I also assist in increasing assertiveness and establishing healthy boundaries.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I employ Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an action-oriented form of psychotherapy rooted in the principles of traditional behavior and cognitive behavioral therapy. In ACT, clients are guided to cease avoiding, denying, or grappling with their internal emotions. Instead, they are encouraged to acknowledge that these deeper feelings are valid responses to particular situations and need not hinder their progress in life. Armed with this insight, clients embark on a journey to accept their challenges and make essential changes in their behavior, irrespective of their circumstances or emotional responses to them.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a brief psychotherapeutic approach built on the premise that an individual's thoughts and emotions influence their behavior. CBT is designed to assist clients in addressing current issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, anger management, stress, and other common issues that can adversely impact mental well-being and overall quality of life. The primary objective of this therapy is to support clients in recognizing, questioning, and modifying unproductive thought patterns, ultimately enabling them to alter their reactions to challenging situations.
