Hi! I'm a Registered Clinical Mental Health Professional based in Florida. I received a PhD in Human Behavior, a Masters in Clinical Counseling (MS) and a Masters in Education (MEd). I've been practicing clinical counseling for three years and teaching at the university level for nearly two decades. I am certified in many trauma based practices including EMDR. I also uniquely assist clients through equine psychotherapy (utilizing horses and ground therapy with clients in the pasture). I help a wide range of clients (children to adults) struggling with anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, and other trauma related topics.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions. After time and once trust is built by the client, we can dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
Having worked in both higher education and mental health, I've developed an in-depth understanding that many people want to make sense of themselves and the world around them but don't know how. Helping clients uncover and discover themselves while making sense of familial and other challenges is my strength. I do this by digging into the root cause of our struggles, and then by creating meaning that leads to measurable progress.
I enjoy working with clients who are open to learning about themselves, their early childhood, and how the world around us impacts our everyday lives. My clients are eager to improve, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, and are looking for assistance in understanding themselves while making meaning out of everything.
CBT is used to assist clients in reflection and story telling by first building trust and then unraveling the client's life story.
EMDR is used to treat many different kinds of mental health issues. EMDR is not a cure but a supplement to CBT and other mental health therapies. It is done once trust is built and a thorough understanding of the clients background has been completed.
Christian counseling is used to help clients understand personal struggles through the lens of the Bible.
Narrative therapy allows clients to tell their story in a safe, warm and trusting environment. Sharing one's story can bring understanding and meaning to one's life.
As an educator, psychoeducation is an essential part of therapies I use to help clients easily understand struggles. By understanding specific aspects of a mental health diagnosis, clients can better relate and understand themselves and those around them.
