Hello! I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and owner of Blue Angel Counseling. Before becoming a therapist, I proudly served 20 years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. Today, I bring that same commitment, integrity, and sense of service to helping clients overcome life's challenges. For more than 15 years, I've worked with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. My approach blends evidence-based therapies—including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Trauma-Informed Care—tailored to your unique needs. Many of the struggles I help people overcome are rooted in unresolved past experiences or family patterns that continue to influence how they think, feel, and relate to others. Together, we'll identify these patterns, develop healthier coping skills, and work toward greater confidence, emotional balance, and lasting change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our first session, we'll take time to get to know each other in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. I'll ask questions about your concerns, history, and goals, and may use simple assessment tools to better understand what brought you to therapy. Together, we'll begin developing a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs. While every person's journey is unique, many clients begin noticing a clearer mind, greater emotional stability, and increased confidence within the first few sessions. As you gain insight, develop new skills, and begin changing long-standing patterns, healing often builds momentum over time. Once your initial goals are achieved, you may choose to continue with periodic check-ins to maintain your progress. My goal isn't simply to reduce symptoms—it's to help you understand what's keeping you stuck so lasting change becomes possible and you develop the confidence to navigate future challenges on your own.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My passion is helping people find their way toward healing, peace, and emotional freedom. I've faced my own challenges and benefited from many of the same therapies I now use with clients, bringing lasting positive change to my own life. Because I've walked that journey myself, I understand both how difficult—and how life-changing—the healing process can be. Over the years, I've helped adults from many different backgrounds recover from trauma, overcome anxiety and depression, strengthen relationships, and build healthier beliefs about themselves. I especially enjoy helping clients identify and change the negative core beliefs that often develop through difficult life experiences or dysfunctional family systems. Above all, I strive to create a therapeutic relationship built on warmth, empathy, honesty, and respect, where lasting growth can take place.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with motivated adults who are ready to make meaningful changes in their lives. Many of my clients are high-functioning individuals who appear successful on the outside but privately struggle with anxiety, unresolved trauma, low self-esteem, difficult relationship patterns, or the lasting effects of dysfunctional family systems. If you're willing to engage in the therapeutic process, I'll meet you with warmth, honesty, practical guidance, and evidence-based care as we work together toward lasting healing and greater emotional freedom. At this time, I provide individual therapy for adults only (not couples, families, or children). My primary focus is helping clients heal and grow through the therapeutic process. I generally do not provide letters for workplace issues, disability claims, divorce proceedings, or other legal or administrative matters.

My treatment methods

EMDR

Painful memories can continue affecting your thoughts, emotions, and relationships long after the events themselves have ended. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process experiences that may have become "stuck." As treatment progresses, traumatic memories typically lose their emotional intensity while you retain the facts of what happened. During telehealth sessions, I guide you through EMDR using audio tones and headphones at a pace that feels safe and manageable, helping you experience lasting relief without becoming overwhelmed.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are closely connected, and negative thinking patterns can keep anxiety, depression, and self-doubt alive. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based approach that helps identify those unhelpful patterns, evaluate whether they are accurate, and replace them with healthier ways of thinking and responding. Our sessions are collaborative and solution-oriented, giving you practical tools you can begin using immediately to feel calmer, think more clearly, and handle life's challenges with greater confidence.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Sometimes you don't need to spend months analyzing every problem—you need practical solutions that help you move forward. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) emphasizes your existing strengths, resources, and successes while helping you create meaningful change. Rather than dwelling on the past, we'll focus on what is already working, clarify your goals, and develop practical strategies that fit your life. This approach helps you build confidence and momentum by taking achievable steps toward the future you want.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-Informed Care recognizes that many emotional and relational struggles are rooted in difficult life experiences. My approach emphasizes creating a safe, supportive environment where healing can occur at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Together, we focus on building trust, developing healthy coping skills, and addressing the underlying experiences that continue to affect your life today.

Christian Counseling

For clients who desire a Christian perspective, I integrate biblical principles with evidence-based counseling to support healing of both the heart and mind. Therapy is tailored to your individual needs and may include Scripture, prayer, and discussion of spiritual concerns alongside proven therapeutic techniques. My goal is to help you experience greater peace, resilience, and confidence as you grow emotionally and spiritually.

I originally didn't believe in therapy until I started working with Mr. Odell. I'm currently going through a break up and I know that this is a time for great growth. There is no person I would rather have help me on this journey to betterment than Mr. Odell

Mark is a good listener and knows what to look for in my stream of consciousness when we talk. He doesn’t push me to say anything that I’m not comfortable sharing but he makes me feel safe to share things with him that I didn’t even know I needed to share. I love that he is a Christian and can help me in that way too. I have enjoyed our conversations and sessions because it doesn’t feel like he is talking down to me but is talking with me and is looking to help me work through my problems.
