Hello! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a retired U.S. Navy veteran with 20 years of service. I have over 15 years of experience helping people through many challenges. I hold two master's degrees: An MS in Counseling & Psychology from Troy University and an MBA from Liberty University. Most people come to me for help with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, careers, and existential issues. I use various treatment modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I recognize that many people face various emotional challenges, wanting solutions for the here and now. Many of the problems I help people with often stem from their past and may even be rooted in generational family dysfunction. As a result, buried feelings, isolation, fear of abandonment, people-pleasing, and unhealthy relationships may become problematic. If you feel stuck and seek relief, I will happily work alongside you to help you reach your full potential.
In our first session together, we’ll start with brief introductions and then discuss the specific challenges you’re facing. From there, we'll identify your goals. Together, we'll create a tailored plan to work through in follow-up sessions.
What makes me unique is that I have faced many of the problems I currently help people with. This gives me a rare vantage point into what a successful journey of personal recovery can look like. Although this was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, I consider it a blessing. I have a long track record of helping people from all walks of life recover from trauma, solve current life challenges, and build a strong foundation for success. I love to help people address negative core self-beliefs, improve relationships with others, figure out work-related dilemmas, resolve life-purpose issues, and heal from generational family dysfunction. I place a high value on warmth, empathy, genuineness, and respect. My passion is helping people see their way clearly toward healing, peace, and freedom. I am passionate about this because I have faced many of these challenges and benefited from the same therapies I currently practice.
I am best positioned to work with individual adults who are highly motivated to improve their lives. I prefer that those who come to me for help are completely voluntary, willing, and able to engage in the therapeutic experience and actively work toward their goals. It is also important to emphasize that currently, I do not book appointments with couples, families, or children. Finally, please note that I generally refrain from writing official letters for employers, disability, attorneys, etc.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based and widely used form of psychotherapy that’s helped many people around the world. Therapists use cognitive behavioral therapy to help people with mental and physical health challenges, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and chronic pain. The goal of CBT is to help you adapt and change your mindset and behaviors by reassessing distorted thought patterns.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is one of the world's most widely used therapeutic treatments. Unlike traditional forms of therapy that take time to analyze problems, pathology, and past life events, SFBT concentrates on finding solutions in the present and exploring one’s hope for the future to find a quick and pragmatic resolution to one’s problems. This method takes the approach that you know what you need to do to improve your life and, with the appropriate coaching and questioning, can find the best solutions.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that is designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. This technique engages areas of the brain to balance logic and emotion with the target of resolving negative core self-beliefs. For telehealth, I conduct EMDR through an auditory (with headphones) modality.
