Welcome to Grow Therapy, my name is Damara C Ferguson, I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, LICSW servicing Ohio, Oregon, and California. I enjoy providing therapy, listening to the client's problems and providing wisdom and feedback. I have worked in various settings, such as group homes, in-patient treatment centers, prisons, and I've provided therapy in-the-home for families, children, and adolescents. You've come to the right place!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Scheduling your first therapy session requires resolve — to admit you may need some help or that you have a condition, symptoms, or challenges to work through — and self-awareness to recognize you need a little help. So if you’ve made your first counseling session already, you should know just how much strength you truly have. And if you haven’t scheduled your first session just quite yet, there’s nothing to fear in doing so — and everything to gain. During your first session we will cover patient consent, confidentiality and the limitations of confidentiality. We'll review your demographics and history, as well as discuss what led you to therapy and what you hope to get out of therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I work utilizing a wide range of clinical modalities such as CBT, DBT, Behavioral therapy, Trauma-informed therapy, Christian Counseling, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance Therapy to name a few. I specialize in helping clients with trauma/PTSD, stress, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, addiction, life changes, self-esteem, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, ADHD, schizophrenia, psychotic disorders and cognitive distortions to give you a general idea.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of talk therapy suitable for the treatment of individuals experiencing life transitions, or symptoms of anxiety or depression. As its name suggests, it’s core aims are to help individuals accept whatever is beyond their control, and to commit to actions or habits that will serve to enrich their quality of life. ACT helps us to clarify what is genuinely important to us (i.e our values), and thus assists us to set more meaningful and life-enriching goals.

Attachment-based

Attachment-based therapy is a style of trauma-informed therapy that is based on attachment theory, which focuses primarily on the role of early interactions between a child and their adult caregivers, and how these initial interactions directly impact a person's ability to experience love and trust in adult relationships. In therapy we will uncover potential attachment disorders, work to resolve them and help you move forward to more secure attachments in your relationships with others.

Christian Counseling

Through the use of Christian-Based Counseling we will explore a biblical-world-view along with evidenced-based psychological principles. Christian counseling can be a valuable tool for personal growth and improvement, especially for individuals who are seeking a faith-based approach. By addressing the individual's emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being, Christian counseling can provide a deeper level of healing and comfort.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidenced-based modality. CBT is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. During our work together the use of worksheets and homework assignments may be utilized.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I am certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT is a structured program of psychotherapy with a strong educational component designed to provide skills for managing intense emotions and negotiating social relationships. Originally developed to curb the self-destructive impulses of chronic suicidal patients, it is also the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, emotion dysregulation, and a growing array of psychiatric conditions.
