LMFT, 12 years of experience
New to Grow
Hello, I’m Carolina Herrera, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 15 years of experience supporting children, teens, adults, and families through life’s most challenging and vulnerable moments. As a bilingual (English and Spanish) and bicultural therapist, I have extensive experience working in community clinics, schools and medical settings, understanding how culture, identity, and lived experiences shape the way we move through the world. I strive to create a space where all parts of you feel seen, respected, and welcomed. I specialize in helping clients navigate anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship challenges, and trauma. My approach is holistic and compassionate, integrating modalities such as CBT, mindfulness, hypnotherapy, trauma-informed practices, Art and Play Therapy, and EMDR when appropriate. I believe healing happens not only in the mind, but also through the body and the spirit. I offer therapy in both English and Spanish, and I welcome individuals from all backgrounds who are ready to take a gentle, courageous step toward healing.
Your first session is a welcoming and safe space where we begin to get to know each other. My goal is to create an environment where you feel heard, understood, and supported. During this session, we’ll start by exploring your current challenges, goals, and what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask some questions to better understand your history and background, your current experiences and how they may be affecting your life. This helps us identify patterns, root causes, and areas we can focus on together. You can also expect me to explain my approach, answer any questions you have, and discuss how we can work together to support your personal growth and healing. This session is not about judgment or pressure—it’s about creating clarity, connection, and a sense of safety as we begin your journey. By the end of your first session, you’ll have a clear sense of what therapy with me will look like and the next steps toward the changes you hope to make.
What makes my approach unique is that I combine a holistic, compassionate, and individualized perspective with practical strategies that support real change. I work from a depth and transpersonal psychology framework, which means I help clients explore not just what’s happening on the surface, but also the deeper patterns, beliefs, and experiences that shape their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I am trained in EMDR and other evidence-based methods, which allows me to tailor my approach to each client’s needs. I also integrate spiritual approaches when appropriate, supporting not only healing but also personal growth and self-discovery. Clients often notice that our work together helps them uncover the root causes of their struggles, gain clarity, and feel empowered to make lasting changes. My approach is both supportive and practical—I help clients feel safe, understood, and guided toward transformation that goes beyond coping, to truly thriving.
My ideal client is someone who, in a compassionate way, is ready to move beyond limiting beliefs and a sense of disconnection from themselves. You might be moving through grief or loss of any kind, feeling stuck in old patterns, or noticing anxiety, trauma, or emotional pain that’s affecting your daily life. You may not have all the words for what you feel—but you know you want relief, clarity, and a deeper sense of peace. Together, we can work on identifying the root causes of what you’re feeling, understanding how past experiences still show up today, and learning new ways to respond instead of staying stuck. We’ll move at your pace, creating space for insight, emotional healing, and small shifts that build real change. This work is the right fit for you if you’re open to therapy that honors the whole person: mind, body, emotions, and spirit. If you’re curious about your inner world and willing to explore it gently. And if you want a therapist who is warm, grounded, culturally aware, and able to meet you exactly where you are—without judgment.
My transpersonal approach blends traditional therapy with practices that support a holistic integration of mind-body-spirit. This may include mindfulness, guided imagery, dream exploration, or working with your sense of purpose. I help clients access the parts of themselves that feel wise, centered, or spiritually connected, so they can achieve a deeper sense of wellbeing.
I have received extensive training in grief and loss therapy, and I have successfully used it to support children and adults navigate deep changes. In my work with grief, I create a compassionate space where you can explore the pain, confusion, numbness, or heaviness that loss brings—whether it’s the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, identity changes, immigration-related grief, or difficult life changes. My approach honors the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of grief, helping you process at your own pace and make meaning in the midst of deep change.
This is one of my favorite treatment modalities to use, as it's adaptable to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. I integrate it into most of the work I do, by supporting you in identifying, understanding and becoming curious about the different parts that make up your experience. This non-pathologizing approach can be used for a wide range of issues like anxiety, depression, and trauma, or life transitions.
I am a certified hypnotherapist, with experience in Age Regression Hypnosis. I use this therapeutic tool to help clients access earlier memories, emotions, or developmental experiences that continue to influence their present-day patterns. Through guided relaxation and focused attention, clients can connect with younger parts of themselves in a way that feels safe and contained. This allows us to gently identify core wounds, understand long-standing triggers, and support corrective emotional experiences.
I completed EMDR certification in 2022 and incorporate it as an evidence-based intervention for trauma, PTSD symptoms, anxiety, and unresolved memories. EMDR allows clients to reprocess distressing experiences while reducing emotional reactivity and strengthening adaptive beliefs. I extended my training in using EMDR specifically with children.
