With all of the challenges that life can throw at us, it is easy to feel overwhelmed or helpless. Life satisfaction and happiness might seem like distant goals with no clear path forward to reach them. You may find that you are spending more and more time stuck in your own head, perseverating on your struggles and acting as your own harshest critic. To me, therapy rooted in compassion and empathy can be a fantastic tool for navigating these challenges and discovering meaning and self-empowerment. Having begun my career at a community mental health clinic, I have experience working with a diverse population of adult clients from many socioeconomic, racial, and cultural backgrounds and with a variety of presenting concerns and challenges. I specialize in treatment for anxiety, depression, and trauma as well as struggles with substance use and always adapt my therapeutic techniques to the individual needs of my clients. My philosophy is that therapy is a partnership between client and therapist to help foster healthy coping skills, personal growth, self-compassion, and understanding of oneself.
If you are new to therapy or just beginning with a new therapist, getting started can sometimes feel overwhelming. As such, it is my goal when starting with a new client to build a level of understanding and comfort to make the process feel a bit less intimidating. During our first few sessions, we will discuss what your needs and goals for therapy are and what you hope to get out of the experience. This is to help me understand your concerns and collaborate with you to find the best therapeutic approach for the challenges you are facing. Our follow up sessions will focus on how to best address your needs - both the overarching goals that may have brought you to therapy in the first place as well as the day-to-day obstacles that you may encounter along the way.
I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches - including CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, exposure therapy, and mindfulness-based stress reduction. I collaborate with my clients to tailor therapy to their individual needs and goals and will often make use of a number of these methods to best serve them.
My approach to therapy is always client-centered and strengths-based, so I take pride in my ability to work together with my clients and help them recognize their own capabilities and resiliency. I strive to make therapy an empowering experience that helps clients find a path forward through whatever challenges they are facing.

Matthew is the absolute best therapist that I have encountered. He brings such a warm, caring spirit to our conversations. He actively listens, and he provides solutions to the challenges that I face. We work together as a team, and he helps me to understand and see each situation from a variety of angles. He continues to encourage and challenge me and celebrates my successes as well as genuinely cares about my well - being. Each week, after our sessions, I always feel empowered and successful.

I have had several therapists in the past without much success. Matt exceeds expectations in what I am looking for in a therapist. He is an amazing listener, and continues to offer me life changing advice week after week. Since meeting with Matt, my confidence is up and I am better able to process my thoughts and emotions.
